Bound for Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Mitchell to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday.
Impact
Mitchell was dropped from the 26-man active roster to create room for infielder Josh VanMeter (finger), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Though VanMeter wasn't a direct competitor for playing time, Mitchell will head to Triple-A since his opportunities in the Pittsburgh outfield were already tending down following the recent promotion of Bligh Madris. Mitchell had started in only three of the Pirates' last seven games and ends his first stint in the big leagues with a .552 OPS over 88 plate appearances.

Other than swapping out No. 1 backstop Tyler Heineman for Michael Perez, the Pirates are running it back with the same lineup that produced a season-high 12 runs in Monday's victory. As a result, Mitchell will give way to fellow rookie Bligh Madris in right field for the second straight game after Madris went 3-for-4 with two RBI in his MLB debut. Considering Mitchell has gotten on base at a .189 clip over his last 12 games and doesn't have much of a big-league resume to fall back on, he may have to settle for a fourth-outfielder role for the time being while the team gives Madris a look.

Mitchell will give way to the newly recalled Bligh Madris in the corner outfield Monday after starting in each of the previous four games while going 2-for-13 at the plate. Since receiving a promotion of his own from Triple-A Indianapolis on May 24, Mitchell has managed a pedestrian .205/.244/.356 slash line through 78 plate appearances. That level of production probably doesn't give Mitchell much security in an everyday role, and Madris could quickly usurp him on the depth chart if he capitalizes on his initial opportunities in the big leagues.
