Back from injured list The Reds reinstated Ferguson (oblique) from the injured list Saturday.

Impact Ferguson has been sidelined by an oblique strain since spring training. He began playing in rehab games in late April but has struggled, allowing 11 earned runs in just 7.2 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A. Despite his poor results, the Reds are comfortable adding him back to their bullpen and will likely look to use him in middle relief.

Impact Ferguson, who also threw Thursday, worked on back-to-back days for the Bats, which is typically a final box to be checked off for a reliever before coming off the injured list. The left-hander has made four appearances combined between Louisville and Double-A Chattanooga. The Reds' bullpen has fallen apart in May (8.47 ERA) and could use Ferguson as soon as possible.

Impact Ferguson threw 16 pitches (12 strikes) as a game opener in his second rehab appearance for the Lookouts. The Reds are expected to have the left-hander throw at least two more games for Triple-A Louisville, MLB.com reports.

Impact Ferguson threw 14 pitches (seven strikes) in his first outing while on a rehab assignment with the Lookouts. The left-hander is expected to be used as an opener Friday before throwing out the bullpen next week for Chattanooga, per MLB.com.

Impact Manager Terry Francona said that is is a mild oblique injury and that Ferguson will be out "a couple of weeks" and that "he has to heal the way it heels," Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. The southpaw was signed by the Reds in December as a bullpen arm that will likely see many left-handed hitters.
