Picks up win in relief Winquest (1-0) earned the win after allowing one hit while striking out one over 1.2 scoreless innings in Friday's 7-6 victory over the Rockies.

Impact Winquest entered the game in the seventh inning with one out and delivered an impressive showing. His scoreless work gave the Cardinals' offense enough time to rally, with Ivan Herrera's three-run homer in the ninth ultimately putting St. Louis ahead. The comeback handed Winquest the first victory of his major-league career, while his ERA dropped to 1.59. He's allowed just one run on 5.2 innings and four appearances for the Cardinals this season.

Promoted to big leagues The Cardinals selected Winquest's contract from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Impact Winquest got off to a slow start this season and missed some time with an undisclosed injury, but he's been locked in since the calendar flipped to August, tossing 10.1 scoreless innings with just three hits allowed and a 17:5 K:BB. The 26-year-old right-hander will be making his major-league debut when he enters a game.

Back in action at Triple-A Winquest (undisclosed) has made two scoreless appearances at Triple-A Memphis since being activated from the 7-day injured list.

Impact Winquest missed nearly a month of action with an undisclosed injury but has turned in two spotless innings with a pair of strikeouts since returning to action. The 26-year-old was a Rule 5 pick of the Yankees before being returned to the Cardinals organization in mid-April. Winquest has a chance to debut out of the St. Louis bullpen this season, but his lack of a 40-man roster spot means others are ahead of him in the pecking order.

Injured at Triple-A Winquest was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Impact No injury designation was provided. Winquest has allowed four runs with a 4:1 K:BB over three innings for Memphis since the Yankees returned the former Rule 5 pick to the Cardinals organization.

Returned to Cardinals The Yankees returned Winquest to the Cardinals on Monday.

Impact The Rule 5 pick cracked the Yankees' Opening Day roster but never made an appearance for them before being jettisoned from the 40-man roster last week. The other 28 teams declined to scoop Winquest up off waivers, so he's now back in his original organization. Winquest has been used mostly as a starting pitcher during his time in the Cardinals' minor-league system, but it's not clear whether he'll return to that role at Triple-A Memphis or remain in the relief role that he'd been pitching in with the Yankees.

Dropped from 40-man roster Winquest was designated for assignment by the Yankees after Thursday's 1-0 loss to the Athletics, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact Winquest is the odd man out with Luis Gil set to make his return to the major-league roster Friday. It does come as a bit of a surprise that he's lost his spot on the 40-man roster though, and he will now be subject to waivers. Winquest made the Opening Day roster, but never appeared in a game with the Yankees.

Makes Yankees' roster Winquest has made the Yankees' Opening Day roster, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Impact The Rule 5 pick had an uneven Grapefruit League performance, finishing with a 6.48 ERA and 7:3 K:BB over 8.1 innings. However, the Yankees are intrigued enough with Winquest's upside to carry him on the Opening Day roster in a low-leverage role. In order for the Yankees to maintain Winquest's rights, the righty must remain on the major-league roster or injured list the entire season, with at least 90 days spent on the active roster and not the injured list.

FEBRUARY 13 • NYPOST.COM

Popped in Rule 5 Draft The Yankees selected Winquest with the 11th pick in the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.

Impact The Yankees hadn't selected a player in the MLB phase of the Rule 5 Draft since 2011, so they must think highly of Winquest. A 25-year-old righty who has only worked as a starter in the minors since getting drafted out of college in the eighth round in 2022, Winquest will presumably work as a low-leverage reliever if he makes the Yankees' Opening Day roster. Last season, he notched a 3.19 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB in 42.1 innings across eight starts at Double-A. Winquest has never pitched above Double-A and turns 26 in April.
