Promising start in spring training Povich allowed one hit and one walk in two scoreless innings during Monday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. He struck out one.

Impact The Orioles have a quartet of arms battling for a roster spot this spring either as a sixth starter or bulk reliever, and Povich did his part Monday to keep himself under consideration. Zach Eflin (back) is expected to be a full participant at camp, though it remains to be seen when he'll make his spring debut. For now, Povich has Dean Kremer, Tyler Wells and Brandon Young as his primary competition.

Struggles with control in loss Povich (3-8) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out five.

Impact While Povich did manage to hurl at least five innings in his fourth consecutive start, the four walks were his most since his April 18 outing against the Reds. The southpaw did strike out the side in the fourth frame as well, but he remains without a quality start since Aug. 10 against the Athletics. Povich has an underwhelming 5.06 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 114:41 K:BB over 106.2 innings, and he's next set to take the ball versus a Rays team with a strong .799 OPS against left-handed pitching since the beginning of September.

Impact Povich cruised through five innings, holding San Diego scoreless while allowing just four hits. It was a different story in the sixth, however, as Povich allowed the first four Padres to reach safety, and he was ultimately charged with four runs without recording an out. Still, the Padres were able to hang on for a 7-5 victory, giving the left-hander his first win since June 15. Overall, the 25-year-old Povich sports a 5.16 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP and 103:35 K:BB across 96 innings this year. He's currently lined up to face the Pirates at home his next time out.
