Fans eight in quality start
Cavalli (2-2) earned the win Saturday against the Orioles, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out eight.
Impact
Cavalli, who tends to keep the ball in the yard, served up a pair of home run for the first time this season Saturday but was effective otherwise. The 27-year-old right-hander attacked the zone for 68 strikes on 96 pitches, logging his third quality start of the year while also fanning at least eight for the third time in his past five starts. Cavalli will be trying to further improve on his 4.05 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 52:18 K:BB over 46.2 innings in his next scheduled outing against the division-rival Mets.

Strikes out four in no-decision
Cavalli did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Impact
Cavalli yielded two runs in the third inning but was otherwise strong, generating 12 swinging strikes on 95 pitches while limiting the Marlins to only singles. The 27-year-old fell one out shy of a quality start, and he's now allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of nine outings to open the campaign. He'll carry a 4.02 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 44:18 K:BB across 40.1 innings into a home matchup against the Orioles next weekend.

Unravels in fourth, takes loss
Cavalli (1-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Twins, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out two over four innings.
Impact
Cavalli unraveled in the fourth inning, when he threw 40 pitches and struggled badly with command. The right-hander opened the frame with a single and back-to-back walks to load the bases before mishandling a weak grounder from Brooks Lee, allowing a run to score on the error. Later in the inning, Trevor Larnach delivered a two-run double that extended Minnesota's lead. Entering Tuesday, Cavalli had limited opponents to two or fewer earned runs in six of his seven starts and had struck out 10 batters in each of his previous two outings. He now owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and a 40:17 K:BB across 34.2 innings and is set to face Miami in his next scheduled start.

Fans 10 in first win
Cavalli (1-1) tallied the win Wednesday against the Mets, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out 10.
Impact
Although Cavalli gave up a season-high eight hits and served up his first home run of the year, he still put forth perhaps his most impressive showing thus far. The right-hander matched a season high in innings and punchouts, generating 18 whiffs in his second quality start of the year. Cavalli has struggled to work deep into starts consistently, logging only 30.2 innings covering seven outings while posting a shaky 1.66 WHIP, but he does have a 3.82 ERA and a strong 38:14 K:BB ahead of his next matchup versus the Twins.

Strikes out 10 in no-decision
Cavalli did not factor into the decision Thursday against Atlanta. He allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out 10 over five innings.
Impact
While Cavalli failed to get in the win column Thursday, the right-hander turned in one of his better starts of the season, setting a new career-high with 10 strikeouts. Still, the right-hander has struggled to go deep into games early in the season, only pitching into the sixth inning once in six outings. Overall, Cavalli sports a 4.01 ERA with a 1.66 WHIP and 28:12 K:BB across 24.2 innings this year. He's currently slated for a road matchup with the Mets his next time out.

Goes just four innings Saturday
Cavalli didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Giants, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits and no walks with five strikeouts across four innings.
Impact
The Nationals' Opening Day starter, Cavalli has managed to go five innings in just one of his five starts to this point. Saturday marked his first start without walking a batter, but the Giants made Cavalli work deep into at-bats and got his pitch count up to 92 through four frames. Cavalli's five strikeouts matched his season high, but he's not going deep enough into games to be worthy of fantasy starts at the moment. Cavalli owns a 4.12 ERA and 18:12 K:BB across 19.2 innings. Cavalli is slated to face Atlanta in his next start Thursday.

Struggles with command in loss
Cavalli (0-1) took the loss Monday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two over 1.1 innings.
Impact
Cavalli managed to work around early trouble in the first inning when he stranded two runners on base, but things unraveled quickly in the second. The right-hander allowed six straight baserunners, including three walks, as Pittsburgh pushed across four runs and forced his exit, making Monday the shortest start of his young career. The outing highlighted an issue that has followed Cavalli early this season -- traffic on the bases -- as he's managed to retire the side in order just three times through 16 innings. The 27-year-old now owns a 4.60 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and a 13:12 K:BB heading into his next scheduled start against San Francisco, a lineup that has had trouble generating consistent offense so far.

Early exit in no-decision

Impact
The right-hander was able to limit the damage over his 94 pitches (53 strikes), but it was another inefficient performance from Cavalli. He's lasted five innings only once in his first three starts this season, and while Cavalli does sport a 2.51 ERA through 14.1 innings, his 1.47 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB are far less appealing for fantasy GMs. Cavalli will try to secure his first win of 2026 in his next outing, which is set to come on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.

Doesn't factor in decision
Cavalli did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out three across six innings.
Impact
Cavalli recorded his first quality start of the season, and this was a far better showing than his opening effort against the Cubs, where he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks across 3.2 frames back on Opening Day. Cavalli made 10 starts last season, posting a 4.25 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across 48.2 innings, and he's opened the 2026 campaign with three earned runs on eight hits and five walks so far in 2026. His 8:5 K:BB, as well as the fact that he's hit two batters and tossed a wild pitch through 9.2 innings, suggest the command and control could be an issue for Cavalli.
