Goes on injured list The White Sox placed Ramos on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow strain, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.

Impact Ramos came into spring training with elbow soreness and ultimately wasn't able to avoid the IL. He's eligible for activation next week but it's not clear how long he might be sidelined.

Impact Ramos is making his first start of the spring, as his lone other Cactus League appearance came as a backup DH in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Angels. Since he's still operating with some restrictions with his throwing while he works through a sore right elbow, Ramos may not be ready to play the infield anytime soon, but serving as a DH should still allow him to pick up enough at-bats this spring to keep him in contention for an Opening Day roster spot.

Impact Ramos is managing a sore right elbow, but at this point in spring training, the issue isn't anything that is expected to keep him from being ready to go for Opening Day. That said, his initial game action during the Cactus League is likely to come at designated hitter, and he'll need to show that he can throw across the diamond at full velocity without discomfort before he's cleared to play in the infield. Ramos reached the big leagues for the first time last season, slashing .202/.252/.333 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 107 plate appearances across two stints with the White Sox.

Impact Ramos is able to hit without any issues, but it's possible he could be limited to designated hitter duty when the Cactus League schedule opens. There does not appear to be any concern about Ramos' Opening Day availability, with White Sox general manager Chris Getz saying Tuesday that he expects Ramos to be "a full participant this season."

Ramos could contend for reps at the hot corner while he's up with Chicago, though he endured similar struggles at the plate during his first taste of the majors back in May. Impact The 21-year-old made his 2023 debut for Birmingham in Tuesday's 10-6 win over Mississippi, starting at third base and going 0-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. After battling a groin injury coming out of spring training, Ramos was cleared to head out on a rehab assignment last week with Single-A Kannapolis and went 2-for-16 with a home run.
