Fails to make cut The Royals reassigned O'Keefe to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Impact O'Keefe was attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee but didn't make much of a push for a spot on the Opening Day roster with Salvador Perez and Freddy Fermin both emerging from spring training fully healthy. He'll presumably report to Triple-A Omaha and serve as organizational catching depth for the second season in a row.

Outrighted to Triple-A O'Keefe was sent outright Tuesday to Triple-A Tacoma after passing through waivers unclaimed.
Impact O'Keefe was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday and drew no interest from other teams. The 30-year-old catcher has slashed .136/.240/.227 in 25 career plate appearances at the major-league level.
OCTOBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
DFA'd by Seattle The Mariners designated O'Keefe for assignment Friday.
Impact O'Keefe was booted off the Mariners' 40-man roster in order to make room for Kaleb Ort (elbow), who was claimed off waivers from Boston on Friday. O'Keefe is just 3-for-22 with two RBI across his major-league career, though his .238/.328/.504 Triple-A slash line from 2023 could get him claimed by another team in need of depth behind the plate.
OCTOBER 13, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sent back to minors O'Keefe was activated from the paternity leave list and optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
Impact Luis Torrens took O'Keefe's spot on the roster earlier this week and the Mariners have elected to keep the former around as Cal Raleigh's backup. It allows Seattle to retain catching depth, as Torrens cannot be optioned and could've been lost on waivers.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Goes on paternity list O'Keefe was placed on the paternity list Tuesday.
Impact O'Keefe only has 19 at-bats since his contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Aug. 16. Luis Torrens was selected from Triple-A to serve as Cal Raleigh's backup in the short term.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Selected to MLB roster Seattle selected O'Keefe's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Impact O'Keefe is 30 years old and has logged only four career plate appearances at the major-league level, but he was sporting an impressive .836 OPS with 22 home runs and 65 RBI through 86 games this season with Tacoma. He'll step in as the Mariners' new backup catcher as Tom Murphy (thumb) heads to the 10-day injured list.
AUGUST 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sent to MiLB camp The Mariners reassigned O'Keefe to minor-league camp Sunday.
Impact O'Keefe made his big-league debut with Seattle at 29 years old in 2022, appearing in two games for the club. He was non-tendered after the season and brought back on a minor-league deal, but O'Keefe is unlikely to get another look in Seattle unless the team's catching depth is seriously tested in 2023.
MARCH 26, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Re-signs with Mariners O'Keefe re-signed with the Mariners on a minor-league contract Monday.
Impact He's presumably been given an invitation to big-league spring training. O'Keefe reached the majors for the first time in 2022 as a 29-year-old, seeing action in two games with the M's. He's likely to spend most of 2023 at Triple-A Tacoma again.
JANUARY 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Non-tendered by M's The Mariners declined to tender O'Keefe a contract for 2023, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
Impact O'Keefe served as a depth catcher at Triple-A for most of last season, seeing only brief action with the big club at the very end of the campaign. He has posted some interested numbers for a catcher during him time in the minors, but he's already 29. The clock is ticking.
NOVEMBER 19, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sent down Monday O'Keefe was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
Impact The 29-year-old's contract was selected Friday to provide additional depth behind the plate while Curt Casali was on the paternity list. O'Keefe went 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts over two big-league games and will head back to the minors after Casali was activated Monday.
OCTOBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Contract officially selected O'Keefe's contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Impact O'Keefe was a Rule 5 pick out of the Cardinals organization in 2019 and will join a major-league roster for the first time to provide catching depth while Curt Casali is on the paternity list. It seems unlikely that O'Keefe will see significant playing time since Cal Raleigh and Luis Torrens are also in the fold, and it's possible that O'Keefe heads back to the minors once Casali rejoins the Mariners.
