He'll return to an everyday role in the outfield with Nashville, where he is slashing .247/.364/.484 with 42 stolen bases, 21 home runs and 68 RBI across 453 plate appearances this season. Milwaukee selected Isaac Collins' contract from Nashville in a corresponding move.

Impact Signed to a minor-league deal over the winter, Hicklen received a spot on Milwaukee's 40-man roster over the All-Star break after he got off to a hot start to the season at Triple-A. The 28-year-old outfielder's production has slowed in the second half, but he still slashed .247/.364/.484 with 21 home runs and 42 stolen bases over 105 games with Nashville to earn the promotion to Milwaukee in September. Hicklen will likely serve as a fourth or fifth outfielder to begin his time with the Brewers and could be deployed mostly as a pinch runner or late-inning defensive replacement.

Added to 40-man roster The Brewers selected Hicklen's contract and optioned him to Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Impact Though he won't receive a promotion to the big leagues coming out of the All-Star break, Hicklen's addition to Milwaukee's 40-man roster at least removes a potential obstacle in him getting a call-up at a later date. The 28-year-old outfielder has been one of the top performers at Nashville this season, slashing .270/.383/.571 with 19 home runs and 26 stolen bases across 313 plate appearances.

Lands in Philly organization The Phillies have acquired Hicklen from the Royals.

Impact It's not clear what the Royals will be getting in return, but it's probably cash considerations or a player to be named later. Hicklen, 27, got a cup of coffee with Kansas City last season but has spent all of 2023 at Triple-A Omaha, posting a .789 OPS with eight home runs and 15 stolen bases in 61 games. He is not on the 40-man roster.

Impact Hicklen missed just under a month of game action for Omaha due to the right elbow strain he suffered at some point during the offseason. The 27-year-old outfielder received a brief cameo in the majors with Kansas City last season, but he no longer possesses a spot on the 40-man roster and will face an uphill battle to make it back to the big leagues.

Impact Since Hicklen joined the Royals as a replacement for one of the 10 players who were placed on the restricted list prior to Thursday's series opener in Toronto, he won't be exposed to waivers even while he comes off the 40-man roster as he heads back to Omaha. Hicklen didn't make any starts during the four-game series with the Blue Jays but went a collective 0-for-2 with a run scored while seeing usage off the bench in each contest.

Impact Hicklen was one of eight players summoned from the minors ahead of the Royals' four-game series in Toronto, where the big club will be without the 10 players on the active roster who were moved to the restricted list Thursday due to their vaccination statuses. The Royals plan on adding two more players from the minors this weekend, but those call-ups will likely come on the pitching side. Kansas City is rolling out a starting outfield Thursday that includes Edward Olivares and Ryan O'Hearn at the two corner spots and Triple-A call-up Nate Eaton in center, so Hicklen could be limited to a depth role while he's up with the big club this weekend. Hicklen had produced an .869 OPS while going 18-for-18 on stolen-base attempts over 311 plate appearances with Omaha this season.
