Ryan Watson, who was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox on Friday, will fill Kerry's roster spot.

Impact Angels starter Walbert Urena last just 2.1 frames, leaving Kerry with a two-on, one-out jam when the latter entered in the third inning. Kerry handled that task well, retiring two batters to escape without allowing any additional damage on the scoreboard. The right-hander took the reins from there and ultimately finished the contest for the Angels, tossing a starter-like 98 pitches (64 strikes) and impressing with 14 whiffs and a career-high seven punchouts. Kerry worked mostly as a starter in the minors, so the big workload wasn't new to him, though he's yet to make a start in the majors. That could change if the Angels need a fill-in starter down the line, but Kerry will presumably be down for several days following his heavy pitch count Saturday, and the imminent return of Yusei Kikuchi (shoulder) may present a risk to his roster spot.

Impact Kerry was called on to fill a bulk-relief role after the Angels elected to keep Jose Soriano off the mound two days before the trade deadline. Aside from a Jake Bauers solo shot in the fourth inning. Kerry did fairly well in his second big-league appearance. He's allowed three runs with a 5:1 K:BB over eight innings in the majors this season. Kerry has worked primarily as a starter for Triple-A Salt Lake, where he has a 7.52 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 87:35 K:BB across 91 innings over 20 games (17 starts) in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. If Soriano or any other Angels starters get traded, Kerry could find himself with a chance at a rotation spot down the stretch, but he could also stay in the bullpen or return to Salt Lake.

Impact Kerry had been slated to start for Salt Lake on Saturday but was scratched from that outing. That could mean that he'll work in bulk relief Saturday, as Jose Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start for the Angels, and the team is starting Brent Suter as an opener. Kerry has made one appearance -- his MLB debut -- for the Angels this season, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk over four innings against Arizona on June 17. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, Ryan Johnson was optioned following his start Friday.
