INJURIES
Let go by Tigers

Impact
White was sidelined by an elbow injury for much of the 2024 season throwing only a combined 7.1 innings in the minor leagues. He'll now seek a new opportunity around the league.

ROTOWIRE
Kicked from 40-man
The Tigers designated White for assignment Tuesday.
Impact
White dealt spent most of the 2024 season away from the field due to injury. He had a procedure done to his elbow in late August and started throwing sessions at the end of September. In order to create room for a few pitchers being selected to the 40-man roster Tuesday, the 26-year-old got the boot.

ROTOWIRE
Slated for bullpen session
White (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact
It would appear to be the first time White has thrown from the mound since he underwent a hydro-dissection procedure last month to address radial nerve-related symptoms. The right-hander is done for the season, but if the procedure has the desired effect he should have a normal offseason and be ready to go for spring training.

ROTOWIRE
Undergoes procedure
The Tigers announced that White (elbow) underwent a hydro-dissection procedure Tuesday to address radial nerve-related symptoms, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact
White had been contending with elbow problems dating back to spring training and hasn't pitched in a game since June 18, when he made a rehab appearance in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. Though the Tigers recalled him from the minors Aug. 13 and placed him on the 60-day injured list with what the club labeled as a right elbow strain, White didn't require surgery and instead had a non-invasive procedure to address the matter. White is presumably shut down for the season, but he could be fully cleared for the start of spring training.

ROTOWIRE
Recalled, placed on 60-day IL
The Tigers recalled White from Double-A Erie and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow strain.
Impact
The transaction clears a spot on Detroit's 40-man roster for Kerry Carpenter, who came off the 60-day injured list Tuesday. White has been limited to just 7.1 innings this season because of elbow issues and hasn't pitched in nearly two months. He is being tested out for a potential radial nerve injury, per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com.

ROTOWIRE
Still shut down with injury
White experienced elbow discomfort during a bullpen session in July and hasn't been cleared to resume a rehab assignment, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact
White has been dealing with elbow issues dating back to spring training, but after being optioned to Toledo on March 8, he made enough progress in his recovery to avoid a stint on the club's 7-day injured list to begin the season. However, White was eventually moved to the development list in mid-April after issuing six walks in 1.2 innings over his first three appearances, and he hasn't made an appearance at the Triple-A level since. White retains a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster and currently resides on Double-A Erie's 7-day injured list.

ROTOWIRE
Whiffs batter in Triple-A debut
White (elbow) struck out the lone batter he faced Sunday in Triple-A Toledo's 12-0 loss to Nashville.
Impact
White hadn't made any spring appearances before the Tigers optioned him to minor-league camp March 8, but he was able to face three batters last Tuesday in an exhibition with the Rays to guarantee his availability for the start of the minor-league season.

ROTOWIRE
Sent to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned White (elbow) to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
Impact
White has been held out of game action all spring due to elbow soreness, essentially eliminating his chances of making the Tigers' Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old had a 5.09 ERA over 40.2 frames in his first taste of the big leagues last season.

ROTOWIRE
Throws bullpen session
White (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact
It was his first time throwing off a mound since a brief shutdown period due to posterior right elbow discomfort. White will throw another bullpen session Thursday as he ramps back up with an eye on a Grapefruit League appearance.

ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Toledo
The Tigers optioned White to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Impact

ROTOWIRE
Back with Detroit
The Tigers recalled White from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Impact
White has put up a 5.09 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 40.2 innings in the majors this season, and he'll return to Detroit's bullpen following the placement of Alex Faedo (finger) on the 15-day injured list. White will likely serve in middle relief to close out the season.

ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Toledo
Detroit optioned White to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Impact
White, 24, has posted a 5.09 ERA and 44:15 K:BB through his first 40.2 major-league innings this year. Sawyer Gipson-Long is up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move to start Sunday's series finale against the White Sox.

ROTOWIRE
Opening Wednesday's contest
White will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact
The Tigers will likely call on White to cover one or two innings before he exits the contest and turns the game over to Joey Wentz, who will be called up from Triple-A Toledo and is expected to work in bulk relief. White is serving as an opener for the second time this season after he previously made his first MLB start July 1 in Colorado.

ROTOWIRE
Back with big club
The Tigers recalled White from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Impact
Though he was optioned to Toledo on Sunday, White is eligible to rejoin the Tigers just one day later since fellow reliever Mason Englert (hip) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. In 16 outings with the Tigers this season, spanning 20 innings, White has accrued a 4.95 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB. He'll likely serve as a middle-relief option while he's up with Detroit.

Optioned to Toledo
Detroit optioned White to Triple-A Toledo after Saturday's loss to the Padres, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact
White allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks over 1.2 innings of relief as the Tigers fell 14-3 to San Diego on Saturday at Comerica Park. He's registered a 4.95 ERA in 20 total innings this season at the big-league level.

ROTOWIRE
Starting in bullpen game
White will start on the mound for the Tigers on Saturday against Colorado, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Saturday will mark the first start of White's MLB career -- and his first start at any level since 2021 in High-A West Michigan. The 24-year-old righty holds a 5.23 ERA and 1.16 WHIP on the season through 10.1 innings, and he will likely only remain on the mound for an inning or two Saturday.

ROTOWIRE
Earns first MLB win Sunday
White (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's game against the Twins to earn the win. He struck out three.
Impact
White helped the Tigers cobble through the middle innings of a bullpen game, and his strong performance was enough for his first MLB win in three games. The 24-year-old has now logged a 1.69 ERA and 0.56 WHIP across 5.1 innings for Detroit this year. He could bounce between Triple-A Toledo and the majors moving forward, though he may be able to stick with the Tigers if he continues to pitch well.

The Detroit News
Brendan White's stat line at Toledo was confusing -- high ERA, high batting average against -- but his high strikeout, low walk rates remain strong.

Recalled from Triple-A
White was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
White is taking Garrett Hill's spot in the bullpen. The right-hander's first appearance will be his major-league debut.

ROTOWIRE
Likely to be recalled
White has joined the Tigers in Detroit, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact
The Tigers could use a fresh bullpen arm, so it sounds like White will be recalled prior to Tuesday's game against Atlanta. White was up briefly with the big club earlier this season but didn't make an appearance. When he does get into a game, it will be his major-league debut.

ROTOWIRE
Back in Triple-A
The Tigers returned White to Triple-A Toledo after Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets.
Impact
Detroit chose not to use White out of the bullpen in either of Wednesday's games, so he will have to wait a bit longer for his first major-league appearance. However, the 24-year-old reliever holds a 2.08 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 13 innings over nine appearances in Toledo, so it may not be long before he gets another chance on the big-league roster.

ROTOWIRE
Called up as 27th man
White was called up from Triple-A Toledo ahead of the Tigers' doubleheader with the Mets on Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact
White will serve as an additional bullpen arm Wednesday, operating as Detroit's 27th man on the roster. The right-hander has produced a 2.08 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 13 innings in nine appearances with Toledo this season. White will likely be returned to Triple-A following Wednesday's action, though his minor-league numbers may warrant a longer look at the big-league level down the road.

ROTOWIRE
Sent down to Triple-A
White was optioned to Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers on Tuesday.
Impact
White had a breakout 2022 season at Double-A Erie after moving to the bullpen and showed well during Grapefruit League play. He is a good bet to debut in 2023 and could eventually find himself in high-leverage spots.

Longshot Brendan White used smarts and passion to get on the Tigers' radar
Brendan White was an undersized 26th-rounder who could have slipped through the cracks. Instead, he's on the 40-man and could debut in 2023.

THEATHLETIC.COM
May make MLB debut in 2023
White is a strong candidate to make his MLB debut later this season, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact
White recorded a 2.67 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 73:17 K:BB across 67.1 innings with Double-A Erie last year, and the Tigers moved him onto the 40-man roster in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. The righty could make the jump to Triple-A this year and possibly make his MLB debut if he pitches well. White has shown an effective slider as a reliever and closed out nine games for Erie in 2022, though he likely wouldn't have a high-leverage role initially in the majors.
