Lorenzen has strong Angels debut in 6-2 victory over Miami

Michael Lorenzen allowed one run on two hits over six innings in his Angels debut and Brandon Marsh hit a three-run homer in Los Angeles’ 6-2 victory over the Miami Marlins

Homers, drives in four Marsh went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, double, walk and an additional run and RBI in a 6-2 win against Miami on Monday.

Impact Marsh got Los Angeles on the board early with a three-run home run in the first inning, walk in the second and RBI double in the eighth. The young outfielder has now hit safely in three of four games and is slashing .400/.571/.800 through 10 at-bats in the early going.

Impact Marsh has started each of the team's first three games, but he will give way to Jo Adell on Sunday. Marsh may be the favorite for the most playing time between the trio of he, Jose Rojas and Adell, though there appears to be a timeshare at the corner outfield positions to begin the season in Los Angeles.

Impact Though Maddon had previous indicated that each of Marsh, Adell and Ward were targeted for 450 to 500 at-bats this season, it appears that Ward was the only one who would be taking on a true everyday role under the original arrangement. The groin injury he suffered two days before Opening Day foiled that plan to kick off the campaign, but it's possible that the scenario could still play out following Ward's return. Of note, both Adell and Marsh started in corner outfield spots Thursday, but Adell took a seat Friday while Marsh started in left and Jose Rojas started in right. Either Marsh or Adell could earn a stranglehold on playing time with a strong start to the campaign, but neither has done well through two contests. Marsh is 1-for-6 while Adell has struck out in all five of his plate appearances.

Impact The playing-time outlook for all three players widened with the organization's decision to DFA Justin Upton, and Marsh has essentially clinched what was already expected to be a starting role in left field. Upton's presence would have undoubtedly eaten into Marsh's at-bats, so the move to part ways with the veteran certainly helps the 24-year-old's fantasy outlook. His ability to play all three outfield spots is also a positive, though he figures to yield time to Ward on occasion.
