Impact Jordan was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain in late August. While he recently shed his walking boot and began incorporating some baseball activities, the Cardinals ultimately decided to shut him down early because of the severity of the injury he suffered, according to Denton. The 23-year-old Jordan ends his rookie season with a .247/.276/.382 slash line and three homers over 199 plate appearances.

Set to be sidelined for several weeks Cardinals manager Oli Marmol said Friday that Jordan is expected to miss "several weeks" due to a left ankle sprain, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact Marmol stopped short of saying that Jordan would miss the rest of the year, but it looks like the 23-year-old third baseman will be shelved until at least the final week or so of the regular season. Nolan Gorman and Thomas Saggese should both see some reps at the hot corner for as long as Jordan is on the IL.

The 23-year-old has slashed .247/.276/.382 with three homers and 28 RBI over 199 plate appearances this season. St. Louis recalled Thomas Saggese to replace Jordan on the 26-man roster.
