Austin Wells hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 on Tuesday night

Belts second big-league homer Wells went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run in Monday's 6-4 win against Arizona.

Impact Wells tied the score in the fourth inning with a two-run shot to center field. He added a single in the eighth frame and subsequently crossed the plate with the go-ahead run. The long ball was his second as a pro, both of which have come over his past four games. He's gone 5-for-15 over that span after batting 5-for-39 to begin his major-league career.

Impact Jasson Dominguez is going to join him on the trip from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as the Yankees try to inject some excitement into the final month of what has been a highly disappointing 2023 campaign. Wells, 24, is sporting an .822 OPS with five homers and 20 RBI in 32 games since being promoted July 21 from Double-A to Triple-A and could get semi-regular starts at catcher ahead of Kyle Higashioka and Ben Rortvedt.

However, Jose Trevino was placed on the big-league injured list with a torn wrist, and Ben Rortvedt was promoted from Triple-A to take Trevino's place on the roster, so Wells will move up to Triple-A to take Rortvedt's place. It didn't seem like Wells was looking ready for big-league pitching, but if he impresses at Triple-A, he could get a look given how much the big club could use reinforcements.
