Inks minors deal with Angels Vasquez signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Vasquez began the season in the Mexican League, where he pitched 7.2 shutout innings while striking out six batters and walking one. He'll now help add bullpen depth to the Angels organization, and he could pitch his way back into the majors if he continues to find success upon returning to affiliated ball.

Signs with Mexican League team Vasquez signed a contract with the with Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos of the Mexican League on Friday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Vasquez has made 64 appearances at the big-league level covering parts of five seasons but spent all of 2024 at Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization. Alexander notes that Vasquez does not have a buyout should a big-league team want to sign him to a major- or minor-league contract.

Activated from 15-day IL Vasquez (calf) was activated from the 15-day injured list Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact Vasquez returns to the Tigers' bullpen for the final weekend of the 2023 campaign after missing about four weeks due to a calf injury. The 30-year-old southpaw has posted a 3.55 ERA and 40:22 K:BB in 45.2 innings of relief this season between Philadelphia and Detroit.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Kicking off rehab assignment Vasquez (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Impact Vasquez has been sidelined by a calf tightness since Aug. 29. He shouldn't need much time to ramp up given that he works one inning at a time, so it's realistic that he could return to the Detroit bullpen by mid-September.
SEPTEMBER 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out with calf tightness Vasquez was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left calf tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact The 29-year-old has surrendered eight earned runs over six innings since being claimed off waivers by Detroit in early August, and he'll now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. With just over a month left in the campaign, Vasquez could have difficulty returning this season if he requires a shutdown period beyond a few days.
AUGUST 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Continuing to pitch well Vasquez, who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Sox, has a 2.16 ERA this season.
Impact Vasquez was claimed off waivers from the Phillies on August 4, and the lefty has logged three scoreless outings since then. The back end of Detroit's bullpen is somewhat in flux due to control issues from regular closer Alex Lange, so Vasquez could earn higher-leverage work if he continues to pitch well.
AUGUST 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Claimed by Detroit Detroit claimed Vasquez off waivers from the Phillies on Friday.
Impact Vasquez was designated for assignment Wednesday as the Phillies did some 40-man roster shuffling in the aftermath of Tuesday's trade deadline. The 29-year-old left-hander had posted an impressive 2.27 ERA with 34 strikeouts through 39.2 major-league innings this season for Philadelphia and could wind up being a nice waiver-wire grab for the Tigers.
AUGUST 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Cast off 40-man roster The Phillies designated Vasquez for assignment Wednesday.
Impact He'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the Phillies needing to clear room for two of their trade-deadline pickups in right-hander Michael Lorenzen and infielder Rodolfo Castro. Vasquez has largely operated in a middle-relief role for Philadelphia this season, accruing no saves or holds while turning in a 2.27 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB in 39.2 innings. His solid ratios could prompt another team in need of a lefty reliever to scoop him up off waivers.
AUGUST 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Records second win Vasquez (2-0) earned the win Saturday against the Athletics, striking out two while allowing one hit, one walk and one unearned run over two innings.
Impact Vasquez entered the game with the score tied in the bottom of the 10th and intentionally walked Esteury Ruiz to lead things off before needing just seven pitches to retire the next three batters. The lefty reliever returned in the 11th, this time with a one-run lead and proceeded to cough up the game-tying run on an RBI double from Carlos Perez. Fortunately, Kyle Schwarber came right back for Philadelphia in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single, giving the 29-year-old his second win of the season. Vasquez has struck out two in each of his last two appearances and lowered his ERA to 1.62 on the season with Saturday's effort.
JUNE 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Claimed off waivers Vasquez was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Wednesday.
Impact Vasquez made a career-high 10 appearances in the majors between the Blue Jays and Giants last year and posted a 6.23 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 8.2 innings. He'll likely compete for a big-league roster spot during spring training in 2023.
NOVEMBER 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Contract selected Monday Vasquez's contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.
Impact Vasquez lost his spot on the Giants' 40-man roster in late August but went unclaimed on waivers and remained in the organization. He should serve as a low-leverage reliever during the Giants' final series of the regular season after Thomas Szapucki (hip) was placed on the 15-day IL.
OCTOBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Claimed by San Francisco Vasquez was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Wednesday.
Impact Vasquez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Monday but will land a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster. He'll report to Triple-A Sacramento to begin his time with his new organization. The 28-year-old has made 14 relief appearances at the Triple-A level this year and has posted a 2.40 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in 15 innings.
AUGUST 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment Vasquez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Monday.
Impact Vasquez was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Aug. 2 after he was DFA'd by the Blue Jays, but he will now either remain with Lehigh Valley, get claimed by another team or get released outright. Although he's struggled in limited major-league action this year, the left-hander has produced a 2.40 ERA over 15 innings in 14 appearances at Triple-A this season.

Claimed by Phillies The Phillies claimed Vasquez (ankle) off waivers from Toronto on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Impact Before landing on the Blue Jays' 15-day injured list in early June due to a right ankle sprain, Vasquez posted an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings of relief for the Blue Jays. He's now healthy again after making three appearances during a minor-league rehab assignment, but the Blue Jays didn't have a spot for him on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old will find a new home in Philadelphia, but he'll first have to prove himself at Triple-A before getting a call back to the majors.

Starts up rehab assignment Vasquez (ankle) made the second appearance of his rehab assignment Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo, striking out one over a scoreless inning.
Impact Vasquez started up his rehab assignment last weekend in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before moving up to the Blue Jays' top affiliate. The 28-year-old southpaw will likely stick with Buffalo through the weekend before the Blue Jays decide whether to activate him from the 15-day injured list or keep him on the minor-league assignment.

Lands on injured list Vasquez (ankle) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday.
Impact Vasquez sprained his right ankle while attempting to cover first base Wednesday against the Royals. He'll now miss at least the next two weeks and potentially more time beyond that. Jeremy Beasley was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.
JUNE 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Nursing ankle sprain Vasquez was diagnosed with a sprained right ankle after exiting Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Vasquez suffered the injury while attempting to cover first base, as he rolled his ankle when contacting the bag. It wouldn't be surprising if the left-hander requires a trip to the injured list, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.
JUNE 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Exits with apparent injury Vasquez exited Wednesday's game against the Royals in the bottom of the eighth inning with an apparent ankle injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Velasquez rolled his ankle on first base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and had to be helped off the field. Prior to the southpaw's departure, he threw five pitches (four strikes) in two-thirds of a perfect inning. It's not yet clear whether his injury will require a trip to the IL.
