Who hit the most irrelevant home run of the 2021 MLB season?

Removed from 40-man roster Albers was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Impact Albers spent the final weeks of the season at Triple-A, but the Twins have now removed him from the 40-man roster. The veteran left-hander appears in five games for Minnesota this year and posted a 7.58 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 12:9 K:BB over 19 innings.

Sent to minors The Twins optioned Albers to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Impact Albers allowed three runs in 2.2 innings Wednesday and now has a bloated 7.58 ERA in 19 innings this season. Injuries or other developments could demand his return to the big-league pitching staff in the next couple weeks, but his struggles suggest a complete absence of fantasy value.

Impact Albers has been a starter in three of his four big-league appearances this season, but it's not clear that he'll fill that role this time around. John Gant (abdomen) landed on the injured list and had been serving as a starter, but his turn isn't due up until the weekend, and the Twins' off day Thursday may mean they can go with one fewer starter for now.

Impact Albers, who needed 98 pitches to get 12 outs, allowed a two-run homer to Franmil Reyes in the third inning and a solo blast to Oscar Mercado in the fourth. The journeyman left-hander has been rocked for 12 runs and 16 hits in seven innings of work over his last two starts. Albers joined the rotation when Randy Dobnak (finger) went on the injured list, but his last two outings may force the Twins to consider other options the next time through.

Albers could certainly return at some point in September for a spot start or as an injury replacement.

Impact After shutting out the Brewers over 5.1 innings on Aug. 27 in his first start in MLB since 2017, Albers took a giant step in the wrong direction Saturday. He was shelled over his three innings of work, allowing home runs to Yandy Diaz, Jordan Luplow, Manuel Margot and Randy Arozarena. At 35 years old, it remains to be seen how much juice Albers has remaining in his left arm.
