Impact After opening the season on the injured list while recovering from a fingernail issue that cropped up late in the Cactus League, Manoah joined the Angels bullpen on May 6 and yielded nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits and eight walks over three appearances before he was outrighted off the 40-man roster just a couple weeks later. The right-hander opted to stick around in the organization and joined the rotation at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he showed no sign of rectifying the command and control problems that have plagued him over the last four years. In 10 starts at Triple-A, Manoah submitted a 16.14 ERA and 2.88 WHIP and allowed 11 home runs and issued 42 walks over 30.2 innings. The 28-year-old righty will probably get a look from another organization, but he appears nowhere close to regaining the All-Star form that he displayed in 2022 with Toronto.

Impact The Angels had Brent Suter open the contest and deployed two other pitchers before turning the ball over to Manoah in the fourth frame. Manoah went the rest of the way, tossing 91 pitches across five innings. The right-hander struggled with his control, issuing five walks and throwing 47 strikes to 44 balls, but he yielded just two hits and managed to keep the Guardians out of the scoring column. Manoah has tossed six scoreless innings across his first two appearances for the Angels after missing over a month to begin the season due to a finger issue. It remains to be seen if he'll keep working behind an opener or move into a traditional starting role, but given his pitch count and results Monday, it seems likely he'll continue to be part of the team's rotation plans.

Impact Manoah will appear in his second major-league contest of the year, and he'll likely get a chance to be a little more stretched out this time around. The right-hander pitched a perfect inning Friday against the Blue Jays, recording a strikeout while throwing seven of his 11 total pitches for strikes. The Angels haven't announced who will open the game on the mound versus Cleveland, but southpaw Brent Suter is a logical candidate.

Impact Manoah began his career with Toronto and remained with the organization until September of last year. The right-hander didn't make it to the majors in 2025, as all of his pitching came in the minors while he worked his way back from an internal brace procedure on his right elbow that he underwent in June of 2024. Manoah was signed by the Angels this past December but lost a fingernail on his pitching hand in mid-March and began the season on the IL. He finally made his Angels debut Friday and looked good, throwing seven of 11 pitches for strikes without allowing any baserunners in an uneventful eighth inning. It was Manoah's first career regular-season MLB relief appearance after working as a starter in all 75 of his previous outings. It's not yet clear if the Angels plan to keep him in the bullpen or if he'll get a chance to enter the rotation at some point.
