Fighting mechanics Bummer struck out two over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 7-3 win over Cleveland.
Impact The White Sox's bullpen, projected as a strength entering the season, posted a 4.50 ERA and blew seven saves during April. Bummer was no exception to the struggles. He told Jared Wyllys of the Chicago Sun-Times that a drop off in his performance this season is due to a mechanical issue. Bummer's strikeouts are down and walks up thus far in 2021, but he still has a respectable 2.08 ERA over 8.2 innings.

Tagged with Opening Day loss Bummer (0-1) allowed two unearned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning and was tagged with the 4-3 loss to the Angels on Thursday.
Impact Holding a one-run lead entering the eighth inning, the White Sox were set up for a season-opening win and the debut of new closer Liam Hendricks, but Bummer couldn't work around a couple of fielding miscues. On a fielder's choice, Nick Madrigal's throw drew Tim Anderson off the second-base bag, then a Yasmani Grandal passed ball advanced runners. A single, a walk and a sacrifice fly later, and Opening Day went from a delight to a bummer. Bummer's been stellar out of the bullpen for the White Sox the previous two seasons and has earned the role as a setup man.

Makes Cactus League debut Bummer allowed two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning in Thursday's spring game against the Reds.
Impact This was Bummer's debut in Cactus League play. The left-hander has been a high-leverage contributor out of the bullpen, emerging as the team's primary setup man during a breakout 2019 campaign. A biceps injury limited him in 2020, but he returns as a setup option from the left side for closer Liam Hendriks.

Throws in B game Bummer threw a perfect inning in a "B" game Sunday against the Dodgers, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bummer faced opponents for the first time this spring in what turned out to be a bullpen day against the Dodgers. "I was happy to get out there and face their hitters, work on things, throw to [Jonathan] Lucroy and get more familiar with him," Bummer said. "Overall a good day for the first time. Hopefully getting into a game soon." Bummer arrived to camp late after staying back for the birth of a child. That put him slightly behind others, but the left-hander has plenty of time to get ready for the regular season. He's expected to be the primary setup man for closer Liam Hendriks.

Arrives late to camp Bummer arrived late to spring training but is not behind other pitchers, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bummer was with his wife for the birth of their first child and missed the beginning of camp, but knowing his daughter's delivery date was scheduled near the start of spring training, he went to Arizona during January and worked out a specific routine with the training staff. "Everything feels good. I feel pretty confident with where I'm at, that I'm not behind and I'm really right where I want to be," said the pitcher. Bummer, who had a biceps injury that limited him to nine games in 2020, is expected to serve as a top setup man in the White Sox's bullpen.

Scoreless in return Bummer allowed a hit and struck out one over a scoreless eighth inning in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Cleveland.
Impact Bummer was activated from the injured list earlier in the day and resumed his role as the White Sox's eighth-inning bridge to closer Alex Colome. Unfortunately, two relievers before him conspired to give away Chicago's three-run lead in the seventh inning, and Bummer's appearance took on less significance.

Placed on 10-day injured list Bummer (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.
Impact Bummer was removed from Friday's win against Cleveland after throwing 30 pitches and will miss several games as a result of a left biceps strain. The southpaw had been dominant out of the bullpen for the White Sox to begin the season, recording a 1.23 ERA and 12:4 K:BB over 7.1 innings across seven appearances. Evan Marshall and Steve Cishek could see an uptick in higher-leverage opportunities while Bummer is sidelined.
