Misses the cut at Royal Birkdale Nakajima posted a three-over cumulative score through two rounds at The Open Championship to miss the cut by two strokes.

Impact The Japanese-born Nakajima entered Royal Birkdale with plenty of momentum following his T3 performance last week at the Genesis Scottish Open, which was the best finish of his young PGA Tour career. He couldn't replicate that success at The Open and got off to a rough start with a double bogey on the first hole of the opening round, ending the day with a three-over 73. He was a little bit better Friday with an even-par 70, but it wasn't enough for him to make the one-over cut line. Nakajima will tee off at the 3M Open next week for the first time in his career.

Best finish of PGA career Nakajima finished tied for third at the Genesis Scottish Open following a three-under 67 in the final round.

Impact Perhaps the most surprising finish of the tournament -- other than Scottie Scheffler's missed cut -- came from Nakajima, who entered the week with no top-10 finishes across 28 PGA Tour events in his career. Nakajima shot three-under or better in each of his rounds at The Renaissance Club, which kept him in the mix alongside past winners in Robert MacIntyre and Rory McIlroy. Nakajima's success mostly came on the green with 6.73 strokes gained with his putter, which was the third-highest in the field. He also ranked T3 in scrambling, fourth in bogeys, T6 in GIR, T10 in driving accuracy and 21st in both SG: Off-the-Tee and Around. Nakajima will tee off at The Open Championship next week, where he's failed to make the cut in each of his three prior outings at golf's oldest major.
