Dreadful performance in Detroit Smotherman posted a 12-over cumulative score through two rounds at the Rocket Classic to miss the cut by 15 strokes.

Impact Smotherman struggled greatly at Detroit Golf Club, finishing his two rounds with 16 bogeys, one double bogey, 13 pars and six birdies. He lost strokes in every category, including 6.61 strokes with his putter and another 3.71 strokes off the tee. It was the ninth MC of the season for Smotherman across 20 events, four of which have come over his last seven outings. He entered the week 75th in the FedExCup Standings and is fighting for a spot in the top-70 to qualify for the playoffs in two weeks. His last chance to make a move up the Standings is next week at the Wyndham Championship, where he finished T27 in his last outing at the event in 2023.

Season-best SG: APP at 3M Open Smotherman carded a three-under 68 on Sunday at the 3M Open to finish 13-under and tied for 24th.

Impact Smotherman ranked T3 among the field in GIR percentage while gaining a season-high 6.49 strokes on approach at TPC Twin Cities, averaging five birdies per round in the process. However, he lost 1.12 strokes off the tee in Minnesota, hitting just 36 of 56 fairways in regulation. Nevertheless, he ascends three spots to No. 75 in the FedExCup standings ahead of the Rocket Classic.

MC with six-over score in Scotland Smotherman posted a six-over cumulative score through the first two rounds of the Genesis Scottish Open to miss the cut by eight strokes.

Impact The writing was on the wall for Smotherman after a four-over 74 in the opening round. He gained 2.82 strokes with his irons across his two rounds, but he also lost 4.28 strokes with his putter. Smotherman has missed the cut in three of his last five tournaments and eight times in 18 events this season. He's not listed in the field for The Open Championship nor the Corales Puntacana Championship next week.

Impact Smotherman opened the tournament nicely with a five-under 66 and entered the weekend at seven-under. However, he was unable to gain ground over the weekend, ending his tournament with a one-over 72 on Sunday that included four bogeys, one birdie and an eagle. Most of Smotherman's struggles came on the green, as he lost a whopping 6.12 strokes with his putter, which ranked 78th out of the 79 players who made the cut. His loses on the green mitigated the great work he did elsewhere; he ranked T4 in driving accuracy, T6 in GIR, 10th in both birdies and SG: Off-the-Tee and 17th in SG: Approach. Smotherman is in the field for next week's Genesis Scottish Open.

He held onto his lead until the end of the third round, when he was caught by Lowry, and Smotherman found himself fading out of contention after going even on the front nine of the final round. Smotherman ended things on a positive note with a two-under score on the back nine, and while he wasn't able to capture his first PGA Tour victory, his T2 was still his best finish at a Tour event. The 31-year-old American led the field at Palm Beaches in GIR and birdies made and ranked in the top-10 in SG: Off-the-Tee and SG: Around-the-Green. Smotherman is currently listed in the field for the Puerto Rico Open next week, where he's made the cut in each of his two outings at the event (T55 and T68 in 2022 and 2024, respectively).
