Que'Sean Brown - High volume, but low yards in win
Brown supplied 41 yards on seven receptions in Saturday's 44-21 win over Old Dominion.
Impact
Brown was second on the receptions list behind Luke Reynolds, who paced the team with eight grabs, 108 yards and two scores from the tight end position. Brown is the top receiver on the depth chart, and his high volume was nice, but he will need to bump up the yardage substantially. He'll look to take a step forward at Maryland next Saturday.

Luke Reynolds - Goes off for 108 yards, two touchdowns
Reynolds registered game highs of eight receptions and 108 yards with two touchdowns in Saturday's 44-21 win over Old Dominion.
Impact
Reynolds has developed quite the rapport with Ethan Grunkemeyer during the early going of the season, connecting on three touchdowns through the first two games. Reynolds has emerged as a must-start fantasy option for his frequent targets and big production. He'll look to keep it cooking at Maryland next Saturday night.

Jeffrey Overton Jr. - Paces Hokies with 47 rushing yards
Overton carries 14 times for a team-best 47 yards in Saturday's 44-21 win over Old Dominion.
Impact
Overton also had four receptions for 32 yards, so it wasn't a poor all-around day. However, his 3.4 yards per rushing attempt was rather so-so against a smallish Sun Belt Conference defense. Overton and Marcellous Hawkins are splitting the backfield touches, and neither have been overly impressive, so the Virginia Tech backfield situation could be a fluid situation until a clear-cut No. 1 emerges.

ROTOWIRE
Marcellous Hawkins Jr. - Mediocre stat line in victory over ODU
Hawkins rushed 11 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 44-21 victory over Old Dominion, and he added two receptions for 18 yards.
Impact
The good news is that Hawkins found the end zone for the fourth time already this season. However, Hawkins averaged just 3.9 yards per rushing attempt, and the Hokies struggled as a whole with just 2.1 yards per attempt on 42 carries. Hawkins will look for better results in Saturday's nighttime road game at Maryland.

ROTOWIRE
Ethan Grunkemeyer - Goes over 300 yards with two touchdowns
Grunkemeyer completed 31 of 42 passes for 327 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 44-21 win over Old Dominion.
Impact
Grunkemeyer also had a rushing touchdown, but he ended up with minus-25 rushing yards due to four ODU sacks. He also was credited with a lost fumble, so it wasn't all perfect in the 23-point win. Grunkemeyer and the Hokies take it on the road to face Maryland next Saturday, and he has settled into being a pretty solid fantasy option so far.

Takye Heath - Sitting out Saturday
Heath (undisclosed) will not play Saturday versus Old Dominion, Damien Sordelett of The Roanoke Times reports.
Impact
Heath will skip a second straight contest to open 2026 due to injury after getting banged up during camp. He'll continue to heal up and has another chance to get in on the action next week versus Maryland before conference play fires up Sept. 26 versus Boston College.

Luke Stuewe - Unavailable for Week 2
Stuewe (undisclosed) is out for Saturday's game against Tennessee-Martin, Damien Sordelett of The Roanoke Times reports.
Impact
Week 2 will mark another absence for Stuewe, who is physically having a tough time being able to make a name for himself under new head coach James Franklin. Before and after the Franklin arrival, he has not logged a counting stat in the FBS thus far.

Shamarius Peterkin - Out Saturday
Peterkin (foot) is out for Saturday's game versus Old Dominion, Damien Sordelett of The Roanoke Times reports.
Impact
Peterkin, who missed the opener due to a foot injury, is set to miss his second straight game Saturday. His next chance to suit up is next Saturday at Maryland.

Chanz Wiggins - Registers TD in opening victory
Wiggins had one reception for 40 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 73-3 win over Virginia Military.
Impact
Wiggins, a King George, Va. native, made the most of his first collegiate touch, taking it all the way for a touchdown in the third-longest scoring play of the game. He was working with backup QB Bryce Baker. Wiggins was seeing some unexpected playing time due to the lopsided nature of the game, as well as a handful of injuries to several in the receivers' room.

Luke Reynolds - Secures five receptions, touchdown
Reynolds posted five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 73-3 victory over Virginia Military.
Impact
Reynolds had a strong spring game and training camp, and he pushed to the top of the depth chart. He did nothing to hurt his standing as the tight end, and he had a nice rapport with starting quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer. He'll look to keep up the good work next time out on Sept. 12 against Old Dominion.
