Out for season Thompson (hamstring) is out for the season.

Impact Thompson has yet to play a game this season with a knee issue and, most recently, a hamstring injury. The 6-foot-4 graduate tight end will now be out for the rest of Tulane's season as he works back to full health. Given that he did not appear in a game, he could extend his eligibility further for the 2026-27 year.

Impact Thompson has been dealing with a hamstring injury suffered in mid-August, and the fact that he wasn't included on the initial depth chart suggests he might not be ready to play in the season opener. Thompson will be a fixture on offense when healthy, but Saturday's game might simply come too soon for him. Anthony Miller figures to see most of the snaps at tight end, with Johnny Pascuzzi and Justyn Reid competing for the backup role if Thompson is unable to go.

Impact Thompson is expected to be held out for at least another week as he continues to work his way back from a low-grade hamstring injury suffered this past week. Prior to his injury the 6-foot-4 graduate tight end logged a strong showing in a team scrimmage. Thompson's status will continue to be monitored ahead of Tulane's season opener against Northwestern on Aug. 30.

Impact Thompson went down with a knee injury during spring training and has been forced to sit out through fall camp. The senior tight end will work to get back on the field in time for he season-opener and will aim to surpass his total form last year, reeling in 49 receptions for 260 yards and six touchdowns.

Impact Thompson switched from quarterback to tight end this offseason with the Green Wave. He was set to be a backup in the tight end room, but is now focused on rehabbing his knee heading into summer workouts.

Expected to be tight end for Tulane Thompson is expected to change positions from quarterback to tight end for Tulane, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports.

Impact Thompson has withdrawn from the NCAA's transfer portal, indicating he will enroll at Tulane again. However, the former quarterback is not expected to do so as a QB. Thompson's move to tight end may be surprising, considering he has never logged any receptions or targets during his FBS career. However, the announcement comes after Tulane's team added several quarterbacks via transfer. In 2024, Thompson recorded 49 carries for 260 yards and six touchdowns. He also logged three passing TDs.

Struggles against Florida Thompson completed 11 of 29 passes for 125 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions during Friday's 33-8 defeat versus Florida. He also had nine rushes for 17 yards.

Impact Thompson threw three interceptions Friday as the Green Wave was taken down by the Gators in the Gasparilla Bowl. The 6-foot-4 junior quarterback was awarded a start in the Green Wave's bowl game after Darian Mensah entered the transfer portal. Thompson will now have the tall task of finding an opportunity with a new program following his dismal start.

Will start bowl game Thompson will start in the bowl game against Florida on Dec. 20 before officially entering the transfer portal, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Thompson will have one final year of eligibility after the bowl matchup against the Gators, but he'll be under center for that contest, as it'll be his first career start -- and a key showcase for him. A good showing against the Gators could allow Thompson to gain interest from top programs.

Hitting transfer portal Thompson has entered the transfer portal, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.

Impact The Tulane signal-caller will change programs once again. After spending the first three years of his career with Oregon, Thompson appeared in 11 games for Tulane in 2024, completing six of 11 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. He's never attempted more than 31 passes in any of his four years at the college level.

Scores long TD Saturday Thompson was 0-for-2 passing for zero yards during Saturday's 52-6 win against Temple. He also had six rushes for 75 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Thompson took over the offense in the fourth quarter Saturday with the Green Wave up 45-0. He scored a 50-yard rushing touchdown, his sixth rushing touchdown of the season. He has played in every game this season as a rushing threat and has totaled 35 carries for 223 yards and six touchdowns, adding 74 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He currently does not have much value, but if anything were to happen to Darian Mensah he would likely be productive.

Two touchdowns Saturday Thompson completed 2 of 3 passes for 46 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 71-20 win versus UAB. He also had three rushes for 10 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Thompson opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a three-yard touchdown run in the Green Wave's goal line package, his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. He also threw his second touchdown of the season in the third quarter after he replaced Darian Mensah due to the massive lead. Although Thompson is getting fairly consistent work on the ground, he does not play enough to warrant serious consideration.

Scores twice in opener Thompson completed two of four passes for 17 yards during Thursday's 52-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. He also had four rushes for 23 yards with two touchdowns.

Impact While Thompson did not start Thursday's game, losing the job to Darian Mensah, he still got his chance to play and made the most of it. He scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground, the first two rushing touchdowns of his career. Based on Thursday's usage, Thompson looks set to be the team's backup quarterback, but may continue to see playing time since he is such a strong rusher.

Impact Darian Mensah will be Tulane's starting quarterback Thursday. The news is relatively surprising, considering he was previously not part of Thompson and Kai Horton's reported competition to be QB1. Both being expected to play Thursday means they could offer at least decent output against Southeastern Louisiana, but not much.

Listed as co-starter Thompson is listed as a co-starter with Kai Horton and Darian Mensah on Tulane's first two-deep of the season.

Impact Thompson was thought to be competing with Kai Horton for the starting role, but throw Darian Mensah into the mix as well for Week 1. With an opener against FCS Southeast Louisiana, Tulane may have the luxury of exploring all of its quarterback options in the opener and not deciding on a starter quite yet.

Impact Thompson committed to Tulane less than one week after team mainstay Kai Horton withdrew from the transfer portal. Despite attempting fewer than 10 passes across each of his seven games during 2023, the ex-Oregon transfer logged at least one touchdown in four matchups then. Being a backup to Bo Nix would have been problematic for any collegiate quarterback, but that will be far from an issue this time around.

Impact Thompson has been battling Bo Nix and Jay Butterfield for Oregon's QB1 spot, but there was little separation between the three at the team's first scrimmage.
