Catches TD in foul Citrus Bowl Sheffield compiled seven receptions (on nine targets) for 56 yards and one touchdown during Monday's 63-7 defeat against LSU in the Citrus Bowl. Impact Sheffield, who served as the Boilermakers' second or third receiver for much of the year, had to step up into a primary role after wideout Charlie Jones and tight end Payne Durham both opted out for the 2023 NFL Draft. The fourth-year wideout was virtually the only Purdue receiver to find any success while catching passes from backup quarterbacks Austin Burton and Michael Alaimo, as starting quarterback Aidan O'Connell also sat out to prepare for the NFL. Sheffield logged Purdue's lone touchdown of the game when he hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Alaimo early in the fourth quarter. Expect Sheffield to serve as one of the Boilermakers' top receiving options when Texas quarterback Hudson Card presumably takes over the starting job in 2023 after committing to Purdue out of the transfer portal.
