Impact Locklear, who came with head coach Scotty Walden from Austin Peay, was the starter when the season began. He lost the gig to Cade McConnell, who stuck around at UTEP, but McConnell only got to throw seven passes in this game before being replaced. Locklear may be back atop the depth chart, not that it matters a ton.

Benched in favor of Cade McConnell Locklear has been replaced as the Miners' starting quarterback by Cade McConnell, Adrian Broaddus of 600 ESPN El Paso reports.

Impact Locklear has struggled this season, tossing for 710 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions through three and a half games. He was replaced by McConnell at halftime last week, and he may have just lost the job indefinitely. Before getting benched against Colorado State, he was 7-of-15 for 56 yards and an interception. He'll now ride the bench for the Miners for the foreseeable future.

Impact Locklear was a Scotty Walden recruit at Austin Peay, and followed him head coach to UTEP. He was given the first shot to start for the revamped Miners, but on the year he has 710 passing yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. McConnell took over as UTEP's starter last season. Maybe he's a steadier hand for the team.

Impact Locklear is in his first year as a starter, and his first year as an FBS quarterback. It hasn't always been easy. He's thrown three picks and he has fumbled twice, though he hasn't lost one yet. Still, head coach Scotty Walden recruited him to Austin Peay and brought him along, and Locklear has a touchdown in every game. This is a transitional year, and Locklear will likely get the chance to earn vital game reps in preparation for 2025.

Impact While the UTEP offense hasn't gotten humming, Locklear has proven viable as a starting quarterback. He hasn't been dynamic by any means, but he's keeping the offense moving and as a brand-new starter, he has room to grow.

Impact Locklear followed Scotty Walden from Austin Peay, and Walden installed him as starting quarterback for his first game in charge at UTEP. This was not likely to be an easy matchup, especially for a first-time starter, and it wasn't. Locklear faces Southern Utah next. That game should tell us a bit more.

Impact Locklear will start the season opener versus Nebraska, beating out Cade McConnell to win the starting job. Locklear appeared in one game last season for Austin Peay and completed three of his four passes for 59 yards and one touchdown.
