Cleared for second half Leonard (head) has been cleared to return to Thursday's game versus Penn State, according to the ESPN broadcast.

Impact Leonard was evaluated for a concussion and cleared the protocol so he will return for the second half of Thursday's game. Steve Angeli will return to the bench after an impressive end to the first half.

Impact Leonard's hit his head on the ground during a sack and was removed from the game to be evaluated in the medical tent. Steve Angeli has taken over the offense to end the first half. In facing Penn State in the College Football Playoff semifinal, they will take on a Nittany Lions pass defense that was in the top 30 in the country. But in the CFP quarterfinal, the Penn State defense allowed Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen to throw for 304 yards. Leonard also led the Irish in rushing against Georgia, but the Nittany Lions defense against the run is top 10 in the country.

Impact Leonard was held to under 100 passing yards for the first time this season, but he put his body on the line as a rusher and the 80 yards he accumulated on the ground were instrumental in helping Notre Dame upset Georgia in the CFP quarterfinal. The quarterback hasn't ever really stuffed the stat sheet this season, but he consistently makes winning plays and the Irish' offensive output was just enough in the Sugar Bowl.
