The junior running back handled 10 carries for 59 yards during his lone appearance against Portland State, but offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb stated, " I would be surprised if you didn't see a lot more out of 6 this week". Newton will look to take on a larger role for Washington this week against Stanford.

Impact The Washington backfield situation is one of the most fluid in the country with a lot of different names getting a shot. Newton is one of the most talented, but is still working his way back from an ACL injury last October. It's unclear if he will indeed be cleared in time for the opener against Kent on Sept. 3.
