Quinten Joyner News, Rumors, Updates - Texas Tech Red Raiders

Still searching for a breakthrough Joyner had eight carries for 12 yards during Saturday's 49-14 win over Sam Houston State.

Impact Joyner continued to see touches in the Texas Tech backfield, but once against took a back seat to Cameron Dickey's production. Unless the workload becomes more evenly distributed, Joyner projects as a difficult player to trust in fantasy lineups despite remaining part of the weekly rotation.

Strikes early for the Red Raiders Joyner notched 10 carries for 43 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 33-10 win versus Abilene Christian.

Impact Joyner wasted little time making an impact, scoring on a 14-yard TD run during Texas Tech's opening drive of the season. His early usage underscores the coaching staff's confidence in him, even as the Red Raiders continue to rotate multiple backs. Joyner's explosiveness gives him weekly big-play potential, though sharing touches with J'Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey may create some volatility. Even so, he remains a fantasy-relevant contributor in one of the Big 12's better offenses.

This is a brutal blow for the Red Raiders mere days out from the season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Joyner, a USC transfer, was set to be the unquestioned top tailback in Lubbock after a season in which he posted 478 yards and three scores on a healthy 7.6 yards-per-carry clip. J'Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey figure to be the next men up for Texas Tech.

Impact Joyner joined the Red Raiders this offseason, aiming for a larger role after handling the rock just 63 times as a rusher and 12 times as a receiver during the 2024 campaign at USC. He's apparently made a strong impression early in camp with his explosiveness, and he could be a challenger for lead back duties following Tahj Brooks' departure for the NFL. He's getting extra reps this spring with Cam'Ron Valdez sidelined, which assuredly helps his cause.

Plays larger role Week 14 Joyner totaled 10 carries for 83 yards and hauled in one of two targets for 13 yards during Saturday's 49-35 loss versus Notre Dame.

Impact Joyner took over in the backfield after RB1 Woody Marks was forced out with a head injury relatively early in the game. The redshirt freshman didn't get a ton of runs as the Trojans somewhat abandoned the running game in the second half, allowing quarterback Jayden Maiava to throw a season-high 48 passes. Joyner wasn't a significant contributor throughout the regular season, as he totaled just 63 carries for an impressive 478 yards for three touchdowns across 12 appearances. But, he should step up as RB1 if Joyner is forced to miss whatever bowl game that the Trojans compete in this postseason.
