Impact Griffis is headed back to the Carolinas after spending his first two years at Wake Forest. He spent the 2025 campaign at Texas Tech, primarily serving as a backup to Behren Morton. Griffis should immediately be in contention to take over the starting job for the Pirates next fall.

Leaving Red Raiders Griffis will enter the transfer portal, per Matt Zenitz of CBSSports.com.

Impact Griffis, who previously transferred to Texas Tech from Wake Forest, was the backup to starting gunslinger Behren Morton this season in Lubbock. He wound up tossing for 357 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-36 passing. With one final season of eligibility remaining, he'll look for a program where he can compete for the starting role.

Impact Griffis logged 1,553 passing yards and 11 touchdowns during 2023, his best and last year as a student athlete before temporarily retiring for an undisclosed reason. Currently, Texas Tech's top-two quarterbacks are Behren Morton (shoulder) and Will Hammond. Griffis will have to hope for a lot to be the Red Raiders' starting QB, including an excellent Morton suffering shoulder setbacks and a much less experienced Hammond not performing well during their bowl game against Arkansas on Dec. 27.
