Impact Welch had just one carry for two yards against Utah, and the tailback is "hurting," according head coach Deion Sanders. He also reportedly didn't practice Tuesday. Welch is a firm question mark for the Buffaloes' Week 8 road tilt at Oklahoma State.

Impact Welch had a season-low seven carries Saturday and gained just 14 yards on that small workload. To make matters worse, he lost a fumble in the first quarter which led to Northwestern's first score of the game. Welch was one of four Buffalo backs with seven carries in the game, and Jaquail Smith led the team with eight. It's becoming increasingly clear that this is a four-way split in the backfield, and Welch's value will be hurt significantly unless that workload consolidates around him.

He lead the team in rushing attempts (13) but was one of three backs -- including Damian Henderson and JaQuail Smith -- who had at least 10 carries. That also doesn't include DeKalon Taylor who was on the field for the game-winning drive at the end of the fourth quarter. So while it was a productive outing for Welch, this Buffaloes' backfield appears to be a large committee as of right now.
