Maalik Murphy News, Rumors, Updates - Oregon State Beavers

Staking claim for QB1 gig Murphy has yet to officially lock up the Beavers' QB1 role, but he appears well on his way, per James Crepea of The Oregonian.

Impact Murphy reportedly looks like the most promising quarterback in the Beavers' room, and that's not much of a surprise. The gunslinger lost his starting gig in Corvallis last fall, but he appears to have a leg up in the quarterback battle between himself, Braden Atkinson and Brady Jones. He looks primed to open the season as Oregon State's starter once again.

Pulled in relief Murphy threw for only 56 yards in completing 5-of-11 attempts and was removed in the fourth quarter as the Beavers fell to Tulsa, 31-14, on Saturday.

Impact Murphy came in relief for starting quarterback Gabarri Johnson and then freshman quarterback Tristan Ti'a came in to replace Murphy. The Beavers do not play until Nov. 29 against Washington State. Whomever is under center for Oregon State, it will be a challenge since the Cougars defense is in the top 10 in the nation against the pass.

Impact Murphy looked like Oregon State's QB2 in warmups, but per a video board announcement, it appears the quarterback will indeed hold down the starting job after he was benched in the Beavers' last game, a 45-13 win over FCS Lafayette. Gabarri Johnson will ride the bench, but Murphy's leash looks short here.
