Loses out on QB1 Sperry will not be Florida State's primary quarterback entering the 2026 season, Andrea Adelson of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Even though there is still a lot of the 2026 offseason left to go, Florida State's team has already decided to start the transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels over Sperry. As a backup last season, the latter logged 12 completed passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Sperry has been promising in small doses, though that seems to be all he will get this season.

Impact Sperry appeared in three games as a true freshman, logging 194 passing yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and 27 rushing yards. Ahead of year two, Sperry is pushing Daniels, who transferred in from Auburn, for the starting job. Daniels likely has a leg up, but as Nakos reports, the Seminoles haven't settled on a starter, and may not have a decision soon.

Impact Sperry was inserted into the game after Florida State's starter, Tommy Castellanos, tossed for three scores on 8-of-11 passing. Sperry had a similarly easy time shredding the East Texas A&M secondary, throwing more touchdowns than incompletions. Sperry only figures to play in blowouts like this or if Castellanos goes down, but this was certainly an encouraging performance from the Seminoles' backup.

Impact Sperry is battling Brock Glenn for the QB2 spot in Tallahassee with Tommy Castellanos already locking up the starting gig. Nakos' sources have indicated that Sperry has the upper hand in the race, although with the opener against Alabama on August 30 still over a week out, there's lots to be decided before the 2025 season kicks off.
