Impact Hamlett needed to undergo upper-body surgery, which he underwent, and the procedure cost him time during East Carolina's spring camp. At the very least, Hamlett logged walkthrough work, so he should not be completely out of practice this fall. Once his health is at 100 percent, Hamlett is expected to compete for significant playing time at the tight end position.

Impact Hamlett is coming off a career year with Appalachian State, catching 13 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. He'll have one year of eligibility remaining, and should immediately factor into the Pirates' offense.

Impact Hamlett logged a season high in receptions and yards on Saturday, surpassing his previous highs of two and 27, in the loss. The tight end found the end zone for the second time this season, connecting with quarterback AJ Swann in the fourth quarter on a 35-yard score. The Junior tight end now has a receiving line of 11-131-2 through the Mountaineers first eight games.
