Committing to The Citadel Bennett announced his committment for play for The Citadel for the 2024 season on Thursday via his X account.

Impact Bennett will join The Citadel following four seasons with Liberty. The senior quarterback played in just four games for the Flames in 2023, completing one of six passes for six yards. Bennett will join The Citadel with one year of eligibility remaining.

Does enough in win over Mass. Bennett collected 233 total yards including completing 9-of-18 pass attempts for 183 yards and two touchdown passes in the 42-24 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Impact With Kaidon Salter undergoing ankle surgery and without a timetable to return, Bennett will get first dibs to show he should start. Against Massachusetts, it was the fourth-year sophomore's second career start. It should be noted that sophomore backup Nate Hampton also saw time under center, completing 3-of-5 pass attempts for 76 yards. Bennett also ran nine times for 50 yards against Massachusetts. It will be interesting how Liberty coach Hugh Freeze utilizes Bennett on Saturday, Oct. 15 against FCS's Gardner-Webb and if Hampton will get more time if the game gets out of hand.

The senior led a 99-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter that clinched the contest. Bennett completed 7-of-9 attempts for 98 yards and the touchdown. He threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns when he filled in for Salter in the 21-12 win over Akron on Sept. 24. Bennett has struggled at times this year which opened up the starting spot for Salter. Salter is questionable for Saturday, Oct. 8th game at Massachusetts so Bennett might get the call against the Minutemen.

Impact Bennett got the call with Kaidon Salter, who started the previous two games, sitting out because of a groin injury. The senior did not have to do much to beat the Zips, but it was not an impressive showing for Bennett against Akron who has one of the worst defenses in the FBS against the pass. Coming into the season, Bennett was the third string. Charlie Brewer started the Flames' season opener but was injured in the first quarter when Salter took over. Salter is questionable for Saturday, Oct. 1 at Old Dominion who averages 270 passing yards per game.

Competing for starting job Bennett is immersed in an active battle to secure the starting quarterback spot for Liberty in 2022, Damien Sordelett of The News and Advance reports.

Impact Bennett and fellow competitor, Charlie Brewer are said to have the "inside track" to the starting job in 2022, among the four competing quarterbacks. Bennett is entering his fourth year with the program, having appeared in 14 games for the Flames. The junior quarterback has logged 387 passing yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions on 21-of-43 passing attempts. Bennett will have a tough road to the starting job as Brewer has amassed a large track record of experience and consistency, throwing over 1,179 passes in college.
