Plays in opener
Buchanan played in the season opener last weekend despite not being on the depth chart.
Impact
Buchanan is in the mix of a big rotation at fullback in the team's triple option offense, so it wasn't a huge surprise to not see him listed on the depth chart.

Absent from Week 1 depth chart
Buchanan isn't listed on Army's depth chart for Week 1 against Georgia State, Sal Interdonato of the Middletown Times Herald-Record reports.
Impact
Buchanan led the Black Knights in rushing last season but doesn't have a spot anywhere on the depth chart to open 2021. It's unclear at this point if he's dealing with some kind of issue or has just been beaten out for the spot, but Tyson Riley is listed as the top fullback with Anthony Adkins behind him.

Set to lead fullbacks again in 2021
Buchanan is slated to head the fullback group again in 2021, Matt Fortuna of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Buchanan's 2020 season ended with him on the sidelines but he appears to be in good form as the 2021 campaign approaches. He led all Army fullback in rushing last year, racking up 474 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 111 totes and should be a bruising back (260 pounds) for opponents to handle again this season.
