Huge day in starting debut Knight was 15-for-20 passing for 239 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 62-17 victory over Mercer. He also had nine rushes for 162 yards with four touchdowns.

Impact With rather awful play from the quarterback position through out the year, Auburn focused on giving their freshman phenom some reps leading into the season finale against Alabama. It looked as though Ashton Daniels was in position to start next week against the Crimson Tide but after a 400+ yard and six touchdown day, Knight may have forced his way into the starting role next week against the Crimson Tide.

Expected to start Saturday Knight is expected to start for Auburn against Mercer on Saturday, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Impact Knight will make the start against Mercer, marking his first start of the season. The 6-foot-4 freshman was chosen ahead of fellow quarterback Jackson Arnold for the starting job on Saturday due to Ashton Daniels' benching to preserve a redshirt. Knight was reported to be taking first team reps in practice this week, so the decision doesn't come as a huge surprise. Knight has made just a single appearance this season, completing 2-of-5 pass attempts for 20 scoreless yards while adding 16 rushing yards against Ball State in Week 2.

First QB in 11-on-11s Knight was Auburn's starting quarterback in the team's 11-on-11 period at practice Tuesday, per Justin Ferguson of AuburnObserver.com.

Impact Auburn won't have Ashton Daniels available against Mercer, as he's sitting out in order to preserve his redshirt. Thus, it'll come down to Knight and Jackson Arnold for the Tigers in the annual SEC cakewalk game in late November, and the former appears to have the inside track. The freshman Knight only played in Week 2 against Ball State and completed 2-of-5 passes for 20 yards with four rushes for 16 yards as well.
