DeKalon Taylor News, Rumors, Updates - Colorado Buffaloes

Co-starting with Welch Taylor is listed as a co-starter at running back for the Buffaloes alongside Micah Welch, per Scott Procter of DNVR Sports.

Impact Taylor only played in four games last season, which limited his production to 189 total yards and two scores. Now, however, he's set to split reps in the backfield with Welch, who also returns to Boulder after a moderately productive fall in 2025. It remains to be seen which back is the true 1A, however.

Healthy and favorite to start Taylor is fully healthy and is the favorite to start in the Buffaloes' backfield, Jack Carlough of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Taylor, who missed the last eight games of last season due to an undisclosed injury, is now fully recovered from that injury. Now that he's healthy he's expected to lead the Buffaloes' backfield in 2026. He will likely share snaps with Richard Young in the "Go-Go" offense that Colorado runs that frequently has multiple backs on the field at once.

Now absent from report Taylor (undisclosed) is no longer on Thursday's injury report.

Impact Taylor was previously ruled out on Wednesday's injury report release, so his status may still be up in the air. If he does play, Taylor could be in line to receive some touches behind Micah Welch with Simeon Price (ankle) still sidelined. His status should be monitored closely leading up to kickoff.

Set for another absence Taylor (undisclosed) is out for Saturday's game at Utah.

Impact Taylor will miss a fourth straight contest due to an undisclosed injury, meaning the Buffs' depth in the backfield will be tested once again. With Taylor and Simeon Price (ankle) uncertain, look for Dallan Hayden to potentially operate as Micah Welch's backup in the backfield.

Remaining out against Iowa State Taylor (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Iowa State.

Impact Taylor will miss his third-straight game as the Buffaloes host the Cyclones this weekend. The 5-foot-9 senior, who has logged 189 total yards and two touchdowns across four games this season, will have the benefit of a Week 8 bye to get right before a Week 9 matchup with Utah.

Out for Week 6 Taylor (undisclosed) is out for Saturday's game at Houston.

Impact For the Colorado team, Saturday will include another Taylor-less game. While the Buffaloes are fine at the top of their running back room with Micah Welch, they lack depth, with Dallan Hayden being their only other healthy RB to have been used this season.

Not playing in Week 5 Taylor (undisclosed) is out for Saturday's game against BYU.

Impact The Buffaloes will be very thin in terms of backfield depth, as Simeon Price (ankle) is also out for this Week 5 matchup. This means Micah Welch should monopolize the touches in the backfield when Dallan Hayden isn't around. Taylor's next chance to play will come against TCU in a Week 6 matchup on Oct. 4.

Status uncertain for Week 5 Colorado head coach Deion Sanders says that Taylor (undisclosed) is uncertain for Saturday's game against BYU, Scott Procter of DNVR Sports reports.

Impact Between the Colorado's latest game last Saturday and Tuesday, Taylor suffered an undisclosed problem. Because of it, as the Buffaloes prepare for BYU, his injury status is questionable. During their previous game, last Saturday at Wyoming, Taylor logged 22 rushing yards.

Only five touches Friday Taylor recorded two carries for 11 yards and gathered in all three targets for 19 yards during Friday's 36-20 loss versus Houston.

Impact After gaining nearly 100 yards and scoring a touchdown last week, Taylor only had two carries Saturday, the third most among Buffaloes' running backs. He finished with 30 yards on five total touches which is solid, but his lack of touches is somewhat concerning. He caught three passes in his third straight game though, so he still clearly has a role as a receiving back in the offense.

Productive in Saturday's win Taylor compiled seven rushes for 48 yards and reeled in all four targets for 49 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 31-7 win against Delaware.

Impact Taylor got involved on the ground and through the air Saturday, gaining nearly 100 yards on 11 touchdowns and catching a 21-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds of the first half. Although he continued to split carries with Micah Welch and Simeon Price, he was easily the most productive back of the trio. It's unlikely that trio is broken in the near future, but Taylor looks to be the best option currently given his receiving upside.
