As of Tuesday's practice, with the Longhorns finally wearing pads again, he shared RB1 duties with Arizona State transfer Brown. What he has over Smothers is a better career-high output, but the latter has been more reliable throughout the course of his collegiate career. With North Carolina State, Smothers logged back-to-back seasons with at least 750 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns before joining Texas, so he has just a valid case as Brown to be the Longhorns' new RB1.
