Retiring from football Hood is retiring from football, Shelby Swanson of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Impact Hood's announcement comes during the middle of North Carolina's disappointing 2025 season. Each of his UNC seasons, four total, saw him log at least 40 rushing yards. However, Hood peaked as a freshman, with 43 carries for 250 yards and 13 receptions for another 119 yards to go with a receiving touchdown.

Impact Hood previously led the Tar Heels in both attempts and yards in their blowout loss to TCU in the season opener and appears set to lead the way again in Chapel Hill. The North Carolina coaching staff appeared content to roll with a committee-style approach with Hood as the 1A back against TCU, but the blowout nature of the game more than likely affected the strategy from a ground game standpoint. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in a game with more positive game script, though Hood appears to be the lead back at the moment.

It's hard to gauge a team's strategy, especially in terms of running the football, when they're getting blown out, but this backfield could be a true committee situation.
