Retiring from football
Hood is retiring from football, Shelby Swanson of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Impact
Hood's announcement comes during the middle of North Carolina's disappointing 2025 season. Each of his UNC seasons, four total, saw him log at least 40 rushing yards. However, Hood peaked as a freshman, with 43 carries for 250 yards and 13 receptions for another 119 yards to go with a receiving touchdown.

Good to go Saturday
Hood (undisclosed) will suit up Saturday against Clemson.
Impact
Hood will suit up Saturday after he appeared on North Carolina's injury report earlier in the week. The senior has 46 yards and a touchdown in four games this season, though he hasn't seen a carry since Week 2.

ROTOWIRE
Listed as probable
Hood (undisclosed) is listed as probable for North Carolina's tilt with Clemson.
Impact
Hood hasn't taken a carry since Week 2. The tailback has firmly been supplanted by true freshman Demon June atop the Tar Heels' running back pecking order, and he wasn't expected to make much of an impact even if he is available.

RB1 in unofficial depth chart
Hood was listed as the top running back in an unofficial depth chart released by North Carolina ahead of their upcoming game against Charlotte, per 247Sports.com.
Impact
Hood previously led the Tar Heels in both attempts and yards in their blowout loss to TCU in the season opener and appears set to lead the way again in Chapel Hill. The North Carolina coaching staff appeared content to roll with a committee-style approach with Hood as the 1A back against TCU, but the blowout nature of the game more than likely affected the strategy from a ground game standpoint. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in a game with more positive game script, though Hood appears to be the lead back at the moment.

Lead rusher for UNC in blowout loss
Hood tallied 10 rushes for 31 yards and one touchdown while catching one pass for 15 yards during Monday's 48-14 loss against TCU.
Impact
Hood led the Tar Heels' tailbacks in carries as expected top ball-carriers Davion Gause and Benjamin Hall combined for just 11 carries and 29 yards. Hood, meanwhile, was bottled up in his own right, but his 10 touches easily paced the room. It's hard to gauge a team's strategy, especially in terms of running the football, when they're getting blown out, but this backfield could be a true committee situation. From a fantasy perspective, however, it doesn't look like you want any part of the Tar Heels' offense after that debacle.

Returning to UNC
Hood has announced his decision to return to North Carolina, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.
Impact
Hood will rejoin the Tarheels after briefly exploring opportunities in the transfer portal. The 5-foot-11 senior running back tallied just 32 total yards on 10 touches this season with UNC.

Leaving Chapel Hill
Hood will enter the transfer portal, Rivals.com reports.
Impact
Hood saw his opportunities dwindle the past two years with the Tar Heels. After tallying 43 carries in 2022, he saw just 26 combined touches the past two seasons. After playing in just four games this fall, the senior tailback will have one more season of eligibility remaining.

Active for Week 2
Hood (lower body) is ready to go for Saturday's matchup with Charlotte, Michael Koh of WCHL & Chapelboro reports.
Impact
Hood will suit up Saturday after missing North Carolina's opening game against Minnesota. The senior saw just 15 carries last season, totaling 43 yards and a touchdown. Hood will look to carve out a bigger role this year behind Omarion Hampton and Darwin Barlow.

Listed on Week 2 two-deep
Hood (lower body) is listed on North Carolina's Week 2 two-deep, Isaac Schade of Locked on Heels reports.
Impact
Hood didn't travel with the Tar Heels in their season-opening win against Minnesota. It's a good sign, therefore, that the tailback is listed on North Carolina's Week 2 two-deep. Still, it's important to remember that this is the Tar Heels' first depth chart of the season, as they didn't release one in Week 1 because Minnesota didn't either. Hood is listed as an "OR" at backup tailback along with Darwin Barlow and Davion Gause, so it's unclear what his role will be if and when he's able to return to the football field.

Out for Week 1
Hood is out for North Carolina's game Thursday at Minnesota due to a lower-body injury, Michael Koh of WCHL & Chapelboro reports.
Impact
Hood not being seen during North Carolina's pre-game stretches Thursday was simply because he is not at Minnesota, recovering from a lower-body injury suffered sometime between fall camp and the upcoming game. The running back has more than one week to recover before UNC's next matchup, scheduled against UNC Charlotte.

ROTOWIRE
Not seen during pre-game stretches
Hood (undisclosed) was not seen during the pre-game stretches ahead of Thursday's game against Minnesota, Michael Koh of WCHL & Chapelboro reports.
Impact
The absence of Hood from the pre-game stretches suggests he might play in the season opener. His absence wouldn't generate a lot of fantasy problems, however, as he's buried in the depth chart behind names such as Omarion Hampton and Darwin Barlow. Hood would probably see a limited amount of touches per game when healthy.

Participates in five snaps
Hood (upper body) participated in five snaps during North Carolina's game Saturday at Clemson.
Impact
Hood returned after sitting out North Carolina's first two games of November. He has not logged any positive yardage since Week 6 back in October. From Weeks 1 to 6, Hood logged 13 carries for 49 yards and one touchdown.
