Commits to Cal Emory has committed to Cal for the 2026 season, according to Jim McGill of Bear Insider.

Impact Emory had a breakout season in 2025 with UTEP, recording 119 carries for 569 yards and four TDs while adding 16 catches for 103 yards and two more scores. With those numbers, it's not surprising that he generated interest from bigger programs.

Impact Emory became the number-one back at the same time Skyler Locklear became the number-one quarterback, and the UTEP offense benefited from both decisions. Over his last five games, the redshirt freshman Locklear has averaged 6.4 yards per carry and gotten over 100 total yards twice.

Impact The redshirt freshman hasn't always looked good this season, but he's totaled five touchdowns. He's also averaged 5.0 yards per carries over his last four games. With another lost season down in El Paso, it would make sense to see what this young running back can do with more touches.

Impact Emory, a redshirt freshman, has seen erratic usage this season. However, with an easy matchup on the docket, Emory got his most touches on the season. To his credit, the back also took care of business against a terrible defense.

Impact The Miners' coaching staff must have seen the writing on the wall, as they moved Kam Thomas from receiver to running back to start the season. Thomas ran well in the opener, and then immediately suffered a serious knee injury. UTEP has been spinning its wheels since, with Emory being one of a few guys getting carries.

Impact That's a real step down from last week, when Emory totaled three touchdowns. Of course, the competition was a real step up, as he went from facing Tennessee-Martin to facing Texas. Next week against Louisiana-Monroe will definitely be an easier day for Emory.
