It was the third time in four games the senior big man cleaned the glass with 12 or more rebounds while he also set a new season high with three redirected shots. Awaka has come off the bench for each of the 10 games in conference play and is averaging 10.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks across 22.0 minutes per contest during that stretch.

While it was the second straight game he scored a season-low five points, Awaka more than made up for his lack of scoring with his performance on the glass. The 18 points represent a season-best mark for the senior big man who not only dominated the paint with six offensive boards but also stretched the defense by connecting on both of his attempts from beyond the arc, doubling his previous season total from long range in the process. Despite playing just 20.3 minutes per contest, Awaka is averaging a double double, with 10.1 points and 10.3 rebounds through 14 games.

Impact Awaka has been used as a reserve in 2025-26 after starting 36 games for the Wildcats a season ago, but he's settled into the role well. Through six games, he's still seeing the exact same playing time (19.5 mpg) as last season, but his scoring has improved to 9.3 ppg, and his rebounding (10.7 rpg) has shot up as well. Arizona is fortunate enough to have an incredibly deep frontcourt, so Awaka can be aggressive in the minutes he does get without worrying about foul trouble. So far, that has paid off with some of the best per-minute marks in the country.
