Leaves basketball program De Sousa announced Friday via his personal Twitter account that he has opted to leave the Kansas basketball program. Impact Citing personal reasons, De Sousa decided to move on from Kansas after three seasons with the program. De Sousa noted in his Twitter post that he hasn't decided what his next step will be, though he indicated he doesn't plan to play basketball at any point during the 2020-21 season. A highly regarded recruit from the 2017 cycle, the 6-foot-9, 245-pound De Sousa had a tumultuous stint in Lawrence. He missed nearly half of his true freshman season in 2017-18 due to his issues with his high school transcripts, then was suspended by the NCAA for the entire 2018-19 season after his name surfaced in the FBI probe into college basketball corruption. He returned for his junior season in 2019-20, averaging 2.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 8.4 minutes per game before sitting out Kansas' final 13 contests after being suspended for his role in a Jan. 21 on-court brawl with Kansas State players.
