Logs 17 minutes Tuesday Mitchell (foot) made his 2021-22 debut Tuesday against Nebraska and finished with four points (2-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and two rebounds in 17 minutes.

Impact Mitchell had been recovering from offseason foot surgery and was finally able to make his return Tuesday night. The 6-0 junior has averaged three points, 1.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game over the last two seasons but could be for somewhat of a larger role off the bench as one of the more experienced players on a team filled with new faces from last year's squad.

Impact Mitchell was one of Creighton's top reserves last season and even drew a pair of starts, so he would have seemingly gotten into this game under normal circumstances. In his stead, guard Trey Alexander saw 22 minutes off the bench -- the second-most of the four reserves who saw action in the contest. Mitchell's next chance to take the court will be Thursday against Kennesaw State.

Tending to foot injury Mitchell did not take the court in Saturday's 76-61 exhibition victory over Upper Iowa due to a foot injury, Jon Nyatawa of the Omaha World-Herald reports.

Impact Mitchell apparently had foot surgery this offseason and has been battling back for much of the preseason. Initially projected to earn a starting job, that goal may be difficult with Creighton set to take a conservative approach early in the season. The Blue Jays don't have any more exhibition matchups on the schedule, so Mitchell's next chance to take the court will be the official season opener Nov. 9 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Impact News surfaced before Saturday's game that Mitchell was dealing with an ankle injury and could have been unavailable. The 6-0 sophomore evidently was able to play through the pain but it's affecting his game as he's been held scoreless in back-to-back outings. He'll have a few days to rest before testing it out against Seton Hall on Wednesday.
