This could have been due in part to the Bears' leading scorer Keyonte George failing to return after he exited with an ankle injury early in the first half. Should George miss time moving forward, then love and fellow reserve guard Dale Bonner would be next in line to see increased playing time over the final two regular-season games.

The freshman guard has averaged 7.7 points and 15.3 minutes played while coming off the bench in all but one of 12 contests this season, though he's logged at least 20 minutes during both of the past two games with guards Adam Flagler (illness) and LJ Cryer (concussion) each sitting out once. While Flagler did return to the starting lineup Wednesday, Love could be in line for increased playing time again if Cryer remains sidelined against Iowa State on Saturday.

The redshirt freshman guard also supplied double-digit points off the bench for the second time in the last three games. Love is currently tied for sixth on the Bears in points per game (6.3) despite sitting ninth on the team in minutes per game (11.8). He has also made 11 of his 20 field-goal attempts while playing at least 13 minutes in each of Baylor's last three contests, and he should see plenty of usage if the team gets out to a big lead against Tarleton State on Tuesday.

The four-star recruit out of high school has not gotten much playing time during his career at Baylor, but in roughly four weeks he will be able to start fighting for his spot in the backcourt.

Impact This is a major loss for a Baylor program that suffered significant departures in its backcourt following its 2021 championship campaign. While Love wasn't necessarily guaranteed a starting backcourt spot, he was still a consensus four-star guard who would have been in the rotation -- he had apparently logged 13 points in the secret scrimmage before suffering the injury. Now, the team will have to rely on James Akinjo and Adam Flagler more heavily, with LJ Cryer -- who recently returned from a foot injury -- likely in the mix for a meaningful role as well.
