NCAA waiver denied Aiken (not injury related) will be unable to suit up for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact Aiken, who applied for an immediate waiver from the NCAA after transferring to New Mexico State, has been denied. The 6-foot-7 senior who averaged five points, 3.4 rebounds and two assists across seven games with Arizona last season, will look to secure a waiver for next season.
FEBRUARY 9, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Unlikely to see court Aiken is considered "somewhat of a longshot" to suit up this season, Jason Groves of the Las Cruces Sun-News reports.
Impact Aiken is a fifth-year senior set to play for his third collegiate team in as many seasons, and while the NCAA has typically been generous with handing out waivers, that was not the case here. It doesn't appear a return would provide much benefit for the Aggies, anyway, as the team is off to a 0-9 start to WAC play without any notable non-conference wins this year. It remains to be seen if Aiken will wish to stick around next season when presumably eligible.
JANUARY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out Wednesday Aiken is out Wednesday against Western New Mexico, Stephen Wagner of USA Today reports.
Impact Fortunately for Aiken, he can still practice and travel with New Mexico State's basketball team. The problem is his eligibility waiver continues to be in limbo with the NCAA. Nonetheless, Aiken will try being available before the regular season opener scheduled against New Mexico Highlands on Nov. 7.
NOVEMBER 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Remains away from team Aiken (personal) continues to remain away from the Wildcats, Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star reports.
Impact Aiken has been away from the team for personal reasons since Dec. 8. The 6-foot-7 forward has put up five points, 3.4 rebounds, two assists, and one steal on 13.6 minutes per game this season (seven games). Aiken's next chance to return will be Saturday when Arizona takes on Utah, but his status for then is still unknown.
JANUARY 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No status update According to Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd, Aiken (personal) is "still a member of the team," but he offered no other details on the forward's status, Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily...
Impact Aiken appeared in the first seven games of the season for the Wildcats following back-to-back years as a double-digit scorer for Eastern Washington, but he hasn't seen the court in nearly a month. While this is a player with potential to be a multi-category contributor, it doesn't appear as if there's a return in sight from what's now been a five-game absence.
JANUARY 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Out again Saturday Aiken (personal) remains out for Saturday;'s game versus California Baptist, Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star reports.
Impact Aiken is still unavailable for the Wildcats for a personal reason and it's unclear when the junior will be back in uniform at this point. it's best to consider him out indefinitely until word of his return surfaces.
DECEMBER 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not spotted Wednesday Aiken (personal) wasn't seen during warmups for Wednesday's game against Norther Colorado, Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star reports.
Impact It appears Aiken will be sidelined for the third consecutive contest due to personal reasons. Assuming he's out, his next chance to take the court will be Saturday versus California Baptist.
DECEMBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sidelined again Aiken (personal) remains out for Saturday's game versus Illinois, Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star reports.
Impact Aiken will miss a second consecutive game for the Wildcats for a personal reason, leaving the Wildcats down a double-digit minutes contributor. He could rejoin the action as soon as Wednesday against Nothern Colorado.
DECEMBER 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sits due to personal reasons Aiken missed Wednesday's 94-65 victory against Wyoming due to personal reasons, SB Nation reports.
Impact Aiken was a multi-year starter at Eastern Washington before transferring to Arizona for his fourth collegiate season, where he's served in a depth role for the undefeated Wildcats. His absence Wednesday essentially forced the starters to take on more minutes, with Justin Kier, Pelle Larsson and Oumar Ballo serving as the leading reserves. After the game, coach Tommy Lloyd commented on the situation, saying "I think we all need to respect his privacy right now. He's working through it and at some point I would love to have him back with us." This seems to imply a multi-game absence might be on tap and makes it far from a guarantee he suits up Saturday at Illinois.
