Hot start for Dukes Hugley closed Tuesday's 87-81 OT win over Queens University with 27 points (9-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 9-11 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal across 34 minutes.
Impact Hugley started his career with three seasons at Pitt, followed by a year at Oklahoma and another at Xavier. But due to the COVID year and a medical redshirt, he's eligible for a sixth season and has taken his talents to the A-10 conference. The results have been overwhelmingly positive for a 3-0 Duquesne squad, as Hugley has put forth back-to-back performances of 25-plus points and is averaging 19.7 ppg and 9.0 rpg on the season -- both career highs. He's also offering the best shooting percentages of his long career, knocking down 60 percent of shots from the field and converting at 88.9 percent from the charity stripe. The competition will get tougher -- starting Saturday at Villanova -- but Hugley has more than earned his place on the fantasy radar in formats that include the Atlantic 10.

Impact Hugley saw a higher involvement in the eventual loss to the Blue Jays than he has had with Xavier most of the season, especially since he saw less than 10 minutes in his previous five games. The senior big man was able to contribute very efficiently, hitting a season-best two three pointers and drawing 13 points. Although he should continue to back up center Zach Freemantle, his role could become steadily bigger in the coming games.

Impact The return of Zach Freemantle (15.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg) as the Musketeers' primary center has limited Hugley's opportunities, but despite scoring and rebounding averages that are near career-lows, the fifth-year senior has excelled on a per-minute basis. He's undoubtedly a valuable piece of the puzzle for an undefeated Xavier team, but his fantasy stock will suffer due to the limited run.

Impact Hugley finished Oklahoma's 2023-24 season weighing 270, so cutting 60 pounds should make him much more mobile and durable for Xavier's 2024-25 campaign. It is expected to include him as a primary part now that this season's Musketeers will be without Lassina Traore (knee). That leaves Hugley and Zach Freemantle as Xavier's most center-qualified players, though the latter has been quite successful playing power forward instead.

Impact Hugley saw 23 minutes off the bench Wednesday while contributing his best performance since posting a double-double in his only start of the season on Nov. 30. His production likely played a part in seeing five more minutes of court time than he's averaged over the last eight games, while foul trouble for starting center Sam Godwin also played a part in his increased role. Hugley had averaged 12.0 points and 6.1 rebounds over 19.1 minutes through seven games in November, but those numbers have dipped to 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds over 18.6 minutes in the eight games since.

The 6-10 transfer from Pittsburgh has certainly been more impactful than Godwin when on the floor, averaging 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per contest thus far. Hugley showed great promise as a redshirt freshman during the 2021-22 campaign, averaging 14.8 minutes and 7.9 rebounds in just under 30 minutes per game and this could be a sign of greater things to come should head coach Porter Moser start to let him loose.

Impact Hugley's production so far in 2023-24 has been a bit of a disappointment for fantasy managers, due largely to the fact he's came off the bench in favor of Sam Goodwin in all five games. Despite not making the starting five, Hugley still sees more time at center than any other Sooner, and he's posting superior marks to Goodwin in scoring, minutes played, field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage. It's a bit unclear if Hugley's role is due to the team easing him back from last year's injury, or if this is an alignment that can be expected to continue into conference play. Hughley certainly has the capability of becoming an elite fantasy asset, as shown by the 14.8 ppg and 7.9 rpg averages he put up with Pitt in 2021-22, but he's been unable to replicate that success since. Effectively, the fourth-year player has been relegated to fringe fantasy relevance for the foreseeable future.

But ideally for Hugley, enrolling at Oklahoma got him back on track.
