Jalen Reed - College Basketball News & Rumors

Quiet performance in exhibition Reed (achilles) scored one point (0-3 FG, 1-3 FT) and logged one block in 12 minutes during Sunday's 87-62 exhibition victory over Eastern Michigan.

Impact Reed had been dealing with an achilles injury throughout the offseason but was able to suit up for Sunday's exhibition game. Though he was limited to just 12 minutes and didn't make much of an impact, it was encouraging to see him take the floor at all. It appears he will be ready to go for the start of the 2026-27 season.

Expected to play in first exhibition Reed (achilles) is expected to play in Michigan's first exhibition match of the preseason against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, per Anthony Broome of On3.

Impact Reed reportedly remains limited, and if he plays Sunday it'll likely be on a minutes restriction. Still, the fact that the forward might even potentially be available is an excellent sign for the Wolverines, whose season officially tips off on Nov. 2 against Oakland.

Progressing in Achilles rehab Reed is ahead of schedule in his recovery from an Achilles injury as Michigan departs for Europe, according to Dylan Burkhardt of UMHoops.com.

Impact This marks another positive step in Reed's recovery after he was limited to non-contact work in late July. Though it was announced he wouldn't play during Michigan's upcoming European tour, his progress should keep him on track to ramp up further ahead of the 2026-27 season.

AUGUST 18 • ROTOWIRE

Not available for European exhibitions Reed (achilles) won't play during Michigan's foreign tour in Europe, per Clayton Sayfie of On3.

Impact Reed is still working back from the achilles injury that sidelined him for most of the 2025-26 season at LSU. The forward was taking part in non-contact work this summer, but still isn't ready for a full return to the court. He figures to be a big part of Michigan's frontcourt this season when he's healthy once again.

AUGUST 18 • ROTOWIRE

Taking part in non-contact drills Reed (Achilles) took part in non-contact drills in practice Tuesday, head coach Mike Boynton Jr. told Clayton Sayfie of On3.com.

Impact Reed has been limited to just 14 games over the last two seasons due to injuries, but he seems to be trending in the right direction here. Seeing the 6-foot-10 forward getting involved in individual non-contact workouts roughly three months before the start of the 2026-27 college season is definitely a good sign moving forward.

Impact Reed had his first action since undergoing ACL surgery last December. He came off the bench, but was productive in limited minutes against an overmanned opponent. The Tiger non-conference schedule is light, so the 6-10 junior can be brought along gradually.

Available vs. Tarleton State Reed (knee) is available for Wednesday's game against Tarleton State, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact Now that Reed is available, the question becomes whether or not he can replicate his latest season's stats over a longer span. During his 2024-25 season, he logged 11.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The problem is that because of his knee injury, Louisiana State used him for fewer than 10 matchups. But leaning towards the optimistic side of the spectrum, Reed continuing to average his aforementioned numbers would easily make him a top option, even with Southeastern Conference standards being exponentially high.
