Big game in loss
Essegian finished Saturday's 78-56 loss to Rutgers with 15 points (5-12 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and two rebounds over 24 minutes.
Impact
Essegian cashed in 5-of-12 attempts from the floor, closing with 15 points and two rebounds during Saturday's loss to Rutgers. The 6-foot-4 sophomore, that has been relegated to a deep-bench role for the much of the season, has started to see additional action with the Badgers. Across Wisconsin's last three games, Essegian is averaging six points, one rebound and 0.5 assists on 12.5 minutes per game. Essegian's additional playing time Saturday can be partially explained by the absence of John Blackwell, and it remains to be seen what the sophomore's role will be down the stretch.

Efficient in win
Essegian amassed eight points (3-4 FG, 2-3 3Pt) over six minutes during Friday's 81-66 victory over Michigan State.
Impact
Essegian was a spark off the bench during Friday's win over Michigan State, cashing in 3-of-4 attempts for eight points across just six minutes of action. The 6-foot-4 sophomore has seen limited playing time this season as a result of his defensive shortcomings after averaging 11.7 points per game with Wisconsin in 2022. Through 20 appearances, Essegian is averaging 3.5 points and 0.9 rebounds on a 41.0/33.3/83.3 shooting line across 7.3 minutes per game.

Buried on bench again
Essegian did not see the court in Tuesday's 83-72 win over Iowa.
Impact
The last time the Badgers took the court 10 days earlier, Essegian logged a season-best 18 minutes in the contest, due largely to an injury to point guard Chucky Hepburn. Tuesday was a different story, however, as Essegian was once again a non-factor and didn't even see the court. Coach Greg Gard noted in his post-game press conference that Essegian is trending in a good way (per Benjamin Worgull of Badger Blitz), but the issue keeping him off the court appears to be continued defensive lapses. As a result, his minutes are going almost entirely to recent addition AJ Storr and freshman John Blackwell, which is a testament to the depth of this team. There should eventually be a role for Essegian given he averaged 11.7 ppg last season and shot 35.9 percent from distance, as this year's Badger team is shooting just 32.4 percent from beyond the arc, good for 218th in the country entering Wednesday's games. It's unclear when that role may materialize, though.

Sees 18 minutes Friday
Essegian registered five points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt) and three rebounds across 18 minutes during Friday's 80-53 win over Chicago State.
Impact
Essegian notched five points and three rebounds during Wisconsin's win over Chicago State. The 6-foot-4 sophomore saw a season-high 18 minutes during Friday's contest after averaging 27.3 minutes with 19 starts in 2022. It remains unclear if Essegian is still limited with a back issue, or if he has fallen out of favor with head coach Greg Gard.

Bad across six minutes
Essegian logged zero points (0-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one assist across his six minutes during Wisconsin's 72-59 loss Tuesday at Providence.
Impact
Essegian missed all of his field goals Wednesday. He logged fewer than 10 points across three games Wisconsin played during the first half of November 2023. Regardless of injury and team status, Essegian should be scoring better. The sophomore guard averaged more than 10 points across 35 games he played during his freshman season.

Questionable vs. Tennessee
Essegian (back) is questionable for Friday's game against Tennessee, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sportsreports.
Impact
The sophomore guard played just five minutes in Monday's season opener before suffering the injury, and his availability for Friday's contest remains up in the air. Essegian averaged 11.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 27.3 minutes while shooting 40.04 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from deep in 35 games last season.

Scores 24 points in loss
Essegian finished with 24 points (10-21 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), three rebounds and one steal across 37 minutes during Sunday's 87-79 OT loss to Michigan.
Impact
Essegian scored 23 and 24 points over two games against the Wolverines in February but couldn't get the win on the road. He's certainly a player to watch as he develops in coming seasons.

Logs 23 points in win
Essegian ended with 23 points (6-12 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 9-10 FT), three rebounds, one assist and one steal across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 64-59 victory over Michigan.
Impact
Essegian didn't shoot well from distance but otherwise had another great night, one of many since becoming a starter in mid-January. Away from Chucky Hepburn, Essegian has stepped up as another scorer and he should only refine his game more in the coming weeks and seasons.

Solid in win
Essegian supplied 18 points (6-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, one assist and one steal across 34 minutes during Wednesday's 79-74 OT victory over Penn State.
Impact
Essegian has stepped up in a big way since Tyler Wahl's ankle injury in early-January and kept up the pace even with everyone available. By scoring at least 15 points in his last three games, Essegian has worked his way into a key role for a Badgers team a little too reliant on a high-volume shooter in Chucky Hepburn.

ROTOWIRE
New career high
Essegian recorded 19 points (6-12 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and four rebounds across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 73-55 loss to Maryland.
Impact
Essegian has started three consecutive games for the Badgers and should continue to do so while Max Klesmit remains sidelined with an upper body injury. The freshman has always been known to provide a scoring spark off the bench, but he's now seen 33 or more minutes in four consecutive games, which culminated in a career-high scoring total Wednesday. While his efforts weren't enough to prevent the lopsided defeat, Essegian continues to come up with key buckets when the Badgers need them most. He now leads the squad in three-pointers made on the season with 42.

Debuts in starting lineup
Essegian ended with 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal across 33 minutes during Tuesday's 63-60 win over Penn State.
Impact
Essegian knocked down 4-of-7 shots finishing with 10 points and three rebounds in his first collegiate start, as Wisconsin took down Penn State. The 6-foot-4 freshman has been an extremely efficient sharpshooter for the Badgers this season, averaging 10.5 points on 45/45.6/92.9 shooting splits this season. Essegian looks to have earned the starting nod over Jordan Davis, but he will need to consistently excel to keep the role over a three-year veteran in Davis.

ROTOWIRE
Starting Tuesday
Essegian will get his first career collegiate start in Tuesday's matchup with Penn State, Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact
The Badgers are opting to shake things up a little with their starting unit, and Essegian will benefit as a result. The freshman is averaging 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.7 steals across 23.0 minutes per game this season. He is also connecting on 45.3 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
