The 6-foot-11 sophomore has bounced between a rotational role and starting spot to open the 2023 season as the Spartans see what works best. Through eight appearances (four starts), Cooper has averaged 3.4 points, six rebounds and 1.3 blocks on 19.4 minutes per game.

Impact To the surprise of few, Mady Sissoko started the contest at center for Michigan State. What was a bit surprising was that Cooper out-produced five-star freshman Xavier Booker off the bench. When it was all said and done, Cooper saw the most minutes out of any reserve player and tied Tyson Walker for the team lead in scoring. It's only one game, and the caliber of competition should be taken into account, but Cooper could be carving out a rotation spot for himself, especially with fellow forward Jaxon Kohler (foot) expected to be out until Christmas.
