Impact The guard returns to the West Coast Conference after spending two seasons with St. Mary's and the 2024-2025 campaign with UConn. He struggled to make a big impact with the Huskies, averaging 4.5 points across 12.2 minutes. Back in the WCC, he should again be a big fish in a small pond.

Impact Mahaney was questionable leading up to the matchup but was able to log over 15 minutes for the first time across his last three outings. The 6-foot-3 guard will aim to build on this performance for Saturday's meeting with Seton Hall.

Impact Head coach Dan Hurley indicated in a recent presser that Mahaney would be a game-time decision for Friday's game, putting him in danger of missing his first contest of the season. The 6-foot-3 junior has averaged 5.3 points per game for the Huskies across 22 appearances, including five starts. Should he be held out of Friday's game, Tuesday's road battle against Creighton will serve as his next chance to return.

Impact Mahaney may have not been the greatest fit at UConn, as he lost the starting point guard spot to Hassan Diarra just five games into the season and has largely been a non-factor offensively since. However, that at least took a turn for the better when he posted a season-high 15 points Sunday, sparking the offense off the bench. That said, the season best came without a single rebound, assist, steal or block, so it wasn't that big of a boost for fantasy managers who might have rolled the dice. Nonetheless, a sign of life from Mahaney is certainly a good thing as Big East play heats up.

Impact Mahaney was one of UConn's biggest adds in the offseason, but it would be Solomon Ball who got the start at shooting guard in the exhibition game. Ball had a game-high 18 points, but Mahaney was just one point off that and played three more minutes. Defense could be the one thing that keeps Mahaney out of the starting five, but rest assure he will be playing quite a bit either way because of his shooting ability. UConn opens the season on Nov. 6 against Sacred Heart.
