Texas Tech adds 2nd signee since Mark Adams replaced Beard
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech has added a second signee for new head coach Mark Adams, with Dallas Baptist career scoring leader Chandler Jacobs planning to complete his accounting degree at the NCAA Division II school this semester and then join the Red Raiders as a graduate transfer.
Jacobs' signing was announced Tuesday by Texas Tech. The 6-foot-3 guard will have one season of eligibility remaining after scoring 1,919 points the past four years at Dallas Baptist. He averaged 20.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this past season.
Transfer forward Kaelen “KJ” Allen was the first signee for Adams, and the 6-6 Los Angeles native will have three seasons or eligibility remaining after averaging 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds a game as a freshman at East Los Angeles College.
Several Red Raiders players have departed the program or announced their likely departures since coach Chris Beard left earlier this month to be the coach at Big 12 rival Texas, his alma mater. Adams was a key member of Beard’s staff for all five of his seasons at Tech.
TCU on Monday night announced the addition of transfer guard Micah Peavy, who started 25 games as a freshman for Texas Tech this past season.
All-Big 12 junior guard Mac McClung, the Red Raiders' top corer after transferring from Georgetown, intends to go through the NBA draft process. McClung also has his name in the NCAA transfer portal, as does fellow junior guard Kyler Edwards. Sophomore forward Terrence Shannon Jr. plans to explore the NBA draft without hiring an agent, making him eligible to return.
