News: Lawrence (broken foot) will be placed on IR/designated to return, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Lawrence broke his foot at the end of July, and he was given a recovery timetable of 8-to-12 weeks. He can now officially be ruled out through the first eight games of the season, but the Cowboys' decision to use non-season-ending IR indicates that the team still hopes for a contribution from the rookie. While it's hard to imagine Lawrence emerging as anything close to an every-down player this season, there's always some chance that other injuries could eventually force him into such a role.
Sat. Aug 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Tanner has been released by the Cowboys, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Impact: A reserve running back for the Cowboys the past few seasons, Tanner was brought back at the end of the preseason after being released by the Colts. He never really had a shot to make the Dallas roster, and he doesn't figure to register a touch in the NFL this season, unless the Cowboys suffer multiple injuries at running back, in which case they'd likely give the familiar face a call.
Sat. Aug 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Edwards has been traded to the Cowboys for an undisclosed draft pick.
Impact: He'll supply Dallas with depth on the defensive line.
Sat. Aug 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: As expected, Spencer was removed from the PUP list Saturday, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Though he isn't expected to play in the Cowboys' opener, Spencer has a shot to make it back within the first six weeks of the season, something he couldn't have done had the team left him on the PUP list. He underwent microfracture surgery on his knee in October, and there's no guarantee that he'll play at a high level upon returning.
Sat. Aug 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Williams has been waived by the Cowboys, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Joseph Randle ended up making the roster because he gives the Cowboys more flexibility on special teams, but ESPN's Todd Archer notes that Williams has practice squad eligibility. Of course, the running back will need to pass through waivers in order for the Cowboys to consider that scenario.
Fri. Aug 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Claiborne didn't end up playing in Thursday's preseason finale, and says he's still dealing with pain in his right shoulder, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: The cornerback insists he'll be able to play through the pain, albeit with the help of a shot before Week 1's matchup against the 49ers. The Cowboys need Claiborne to become a reliable, productive member of their secondary, but it's hard to imagine him stepping up while dealing with chronic shoulder trouble.
Thu. Aug 28, 2014 | STATS
News: Hamilton has been suspended for the first four games for violating the league's policy on substance abuse. The second-year player will be eligible for the final preseason game against Denver on Thursday night.
Impact: Hamilton is the second Cowboys defensive back to get banned the first four games. Starting cornerback Orlando Scandrick was suspended for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
Thu. Aug 28, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Randle (oblique strain) will not play Thursday against the Broncos, ESPN.com reports.
Impact: That said, the report suggests that Randle appears to have the edge over Ryan Williams to secure the Cowboys' No. 3 running back slot behind DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar.
Thu. Aug 28, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Hamilton has been suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, ESPN.com reports
Impact: Hamilton, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, had been fighting for a roster spot with the Cowboys, so his suspension is more of a hit to the team's secondary depth than it pertains to those in IDP formats.
Wed. Aug 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Thomas was claimed off waivers by the Cowboys on Wednesday, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Thomas was selected by New England in the sixth round of this year's draft. However, with the Patriots surprisingly letting Thomas go on Tuesday, the cornerback will now join Dallas' secondary ahead of the regular season.
Wed. Aug 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Tanner has signed with the Cowboys ahead of Thursday's preseason finale.
Impact: Tanner spent the past three seasons as either Dallas' second or third running back, but was not initially retained this offseason because the Cowboys opted to pursue former second-rounder Ryan Williams. Now, with Williams (groin) and Joseph Randle (oblique) somewhat banged-up, Tanner could see extensive playing time in Thursday's last preseason outing. However, since the Cowboys already seem to have their top three running back spots locked up, Tanner may be hard-pressed to make Dallas' roster, unless he really impresses in his sudden call to action.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Hanie was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Hanie was made expendable in light of Brandon Weeden providing the Cowboys a steady backup option to starter Tony Romo.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | STATS
News: Bryant figures he has about a week left to work out a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys because he doesn't want negotiations going on during the season.
Impact: The fifth-year receiver is entering the final year of his rookie contract after teammate Tyron Smith, drafted a year later, recently got an eight-year extension that pushed the value of his deal to more than $100 million. Bryant has a base salary of $1.8 million in 2014, and the average of the highest-paid receivers is around $12 million.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Johnson (hamstring) was waived by the Cowboys on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.
Impact: The oft-injured safety succumbed to a hamstring sprain in late July that kept him off the field for much of training camp, prompting the club to cut ties. He could still be stashed on injured reserve by the club if he passes through waivers unclaimed, as expected.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Holloman (neck) was waived by the Cowboys on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.
Impact: The Cowboys will likely try to reach an injury settlement with Holloman, whose career is probably over after he suffered a serious neck injury in the preseason. Prior to going down, Holloman appeared to be in line to replace the injured Sean Lee as a starter at outside linebacker.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Green was waived by the Cowboys on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.
Impact: Green is dealing with an injury, so the Cowboys will likely agree on a settlement with him or stash him on injured reserve. Either way, he won't make an impact in the secondary for the Cowboys this season after the team acquired him from the Patriots two weeks ago.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Spencer (knee) will be on the Cowboys' 53-man roster once the regular season begins, but he won't be ready to play in Week 1, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Spencer still hasn't practiced since undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee in October. However, with the Cowboys wanting to avoid the automatic six-game absence that comes along with a player beginning the season on the PUP list, Spencer will be activated to Dallas' 53-man squad before Sunday's deadline. Spencer reportedly has some progress to make in feeling confident about using his knee to make cuts, so it's unclear when he'll start practicing in the Cowboys' new 4-3 scheme, but an early-season return is now a possibility.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Romo returned to practice Tuesday, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Romo was allowed to take advantage of a light practice Monday by having the day off. Despite being sacked three times in the Cowboys' third preseason game over the weekend, Romo is completely fine from a health standpoint and returned to action Tuesday. However, since Thursday marks the final exhibition contest, Romo is not expected to play; rather, he'll rest again in advance of the regular season.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said that Romo's back was fine despite his absence from practice on Monday, Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports.
Impact: Romo got sacked three times during Saturday's preseason game against Miami, so eyebrows were raised when he didn't head out for practice Monday, but the veteran quarterback doesn't appear to have reinjured his back. Romo will be under center for Week 1.
Tue. Aug 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Claiborne (shoulder) says he'll play in Thursday's final preseason game, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Injuries have prevented Claiborne from getting in any of the Cowboys' preseason games so far, so he'll suit up with the scrubs Thursday. Unless he gets nicked up again, always a possibility with Claiborne, he should be in the starting lineup for Week 1.
Mon. Aug 25, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Romo didn't practice Monday, the Cowboys' official site reports. "Obviously, we played Saturday night and it's Monday morning," said coach Jason Garrett. "The idea was to give him the opportunity, in a light practice, to collect himself and take the day off. I think he's doing OK. He seemed to hold up fairly well throughout that ballgame."
Impact: Romo generally attends practice, even when handed a day off, so his absence was a bit surprising. However, after back-to-back preseason performances, the rest is likely a welcome relief. Expect him to hand it off to the menagerie of Cowboys reserve quarterbacks, including Brandon Weeden and Caleb Hanie, in the preseason finale Thursday against the Broncos.
Mon. Aug 25, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Claiborne (shoulder) took first-team snaps during Monday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Claiborne re-injured his surgically repaired shoulder almost two weeks ago, which coupled with knee tendinitis to prevent the oft-injured cornerback from appearing in the preseason thus far. However, with Orlando Scandrick suspended for four games to begin the regular season, Claiborne is expected to start at cornerback, so returning to action Monday is a step in the right direction.
Mon. Aug 25, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Melton (groin) worked with the Cowboys' starters during Monday's practice session, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Melton has yet to feature in preseason action, as his recovery from last season's torn ACL was complicated by a groin issue during training camp. Despite the time off, he's immediately slotted into Dallas' starting defensive line unit and should play a key figure in coordinator Rod Marinelli's scheme this season. After combining for 13 sacks during the 2011 and 2012 campaigns, the former Bear could make his Cowboys debut in Thursday's preseason finale.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Harris left Saturday's preseason game with hip and ankle ailments, but suggested he would have continued playing had it been a regular season contest, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Harris ripped off kickoff returns of 29 and 50 yards before coming up lame following a 12-yard punt return. While hip and ankle pains were enough to end Harris' night Saturday, he later said that wouldn't have been the case had it been a regular season outing.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Selvie, who was forced to the sidelines early in Saturday's preseason game, says his shoulder is "good", ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Selvie landed on his surgically repaired shoulder Saturday night and did not return following an early game exit. While the defensive end is scheduled to be re-examined Sunday, Selvie downplayed any injury concern. If tests confirm Selvie is fine, he could still sit out Dallas' preseason finale to ensure he's ready for Week 1.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bailey was perfect in Saturday's preseason game, hitting both his PATs and both of his field goal attempts, including a 52-yarder.
Impact: The Cowboys' kicker will head into Week 1 poised and ready, and given his club's combination of potent offense and doormat defense, Bailey stands a good chance of topping his previous best of 135 points.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Williams took advantage of Joseph Randle's absence from Saturday's preseason game, leading the Cowboys with 12 carries for 47 yards and adding two catches for 22 yards.
Impact: Williams and Randle are competing for the number three spot on the running back depth chart, a role that could have some fantasy value this season, given starter DeMarco Murray's injury history. Williams has his own checkered medical report, but he's healthy at the moment and Randle injured his ribs on the kickoff coverage team early in Saturday's contest. The door could be open for Williams to seize the job.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Witten caught the lone pass thrown his way for 11 yards in Saturday's preseason game.
Impact: The aging warrior will still be a big part of the Cowboys' passing game this season, but second year wide receiver Terrance Williams could end up surpassing Witten as Tony Romo's second-favorite target sooner rather than later.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Williams caught the lone pass thrown his way for two yards in Saturday's preseason game.
Impact: He's had a quiet, uneventful preseason, but heading into his second NFL campaign big things are still expected from Williams, as the Cowboys' number two wide receiver.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Free struggled badly against Cameron Wake in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins, allowing two sacks on Tony Romo.
Impact: The Cowboys' right tackle is in the final year of his contract, and while first round pick Zack Martin will start at right guard this season, he could easily slide over into Free's spot in 2015. Free will need to step up his game in the regular season, if he wants to pull down starter money with his next contract, whether from Dallas or from another organization.
Aug 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Patmon made a huge impression in Saturday's preseason game, intercepting two passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown, and forcing a fumble.
Impact: With Orlando Scandrick suspended to begin the season and Morris Claiborne once again banged up, Patmon's performance may have been enough to earn the undrafted rookie free agent a spot on the 53-man roster.
Sat. Aug 23, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Randle suffered a rib injury during Saturday's preseason loss at Miami, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Randle's sole contribution of note was a tackle on the kickoff following the Cowboys' first scoring drive late in the first quarter. As a result, he didn't have the opportunity to factor into the rushing attack, thereby allowing Ryan Williams to handle the second-half reps out of the backfield, to great effect (12 carries for 47 yards and two catches for 22 yards). Consider Randle day-to-day until the severity of the injury is evident.
Sat. Aug 23, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Harris was removed from Saturday's game due to a hip injury and didn't return, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Harris was his usual dynamic self, returning two kickoffs for a combined 79 yards. He reeled off 50 yards on the second one, which eventually ended with a Dan Bailey field goal. However, he was later injured on his only punt return, placing his availability for the remainder of the outing in doubt. He in fact didn't return, leaving his status up in the air for Thursday's preseason finale Thursday against the Broncos.
Sat. Aug 23, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Selvie left Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins due to a right shoulder injury, The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Selvie, who has dealt with a groin injury for the past few weeks, had surgery on his left shoulder during the offseason. He was previously on track to be ready for Week 1, and while the injury is at least to his other shoulder, it may still throw a hitch in those plans. Selvie immediately took himself out of Saturday's game after suffering the injury. If he isn't ready by Week 1, it could free up more playing time for Tyrone Crawford.
Sat. Aug 23, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Romo completed 10-of-18 passes for 87 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins.
Impact: Making his second and likely final appearance of the preseason, Romo was sacked three times and fumbled. He also fumbled in the previous game, but that hasn't been a major issue for him the last few seasons. Romo got some work in, looked healthy, and will still have a strong supporting cast. The Cowboys' first-team offense appears to have made it through the preseason unscathed.
Fri. Aug 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Durant lined up at strong-side linebacker during Thursday's practice, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: The Cowboys got a long look at Durant in the middle earlier in camp, but now seem focused on giving Rolando McClain and rookie Anthony Hitchens auditions at MLB. Durant seems likely to be among the starters when Week 1 rolls around, but at this point his exact spot is still up in the air.
Fri. Aug 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Wilber, who's mostly been practicing at strong-side linebacker this preseason, has started getting reps at defensive end again, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: The Cowboys are still looking for the right combinations among their front seven, and it's entirely possible that Wilber could see snaps at both positions this season. Playing some DE on passing downs could help boost his sack total, but he's still not someone you want to invest an IDP roster spot in at this point.
Fri. Aug 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Rookie Anthony Hitchens, and not McClain (cramping), got the first-team reps at middle linebacker during Thursday's practice, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: While McClain is still probably the Cowboys' first choice among active players to man their MLB spot, at present nothing should be taken for granted, especially given McClain's history of retiring at the drop of a hat. This battle might not be settled until just before Week 1.
Thu. Aug 21, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Hitchens handled all first-team reps at middle linebacker in Thursday's practice and is expected to play 2-to-3 quarters Saturday in Miami, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: After losing Sean Lee for the year during offseason drills due to a torn ACL, the Cowboys will turn to an unknown quantity in Hitchens, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Through two preseason contests, Hitchens has already racked up 12 tackles (eight solo) and a tackle for loss in semi-extended action. Thus, he can likely be relied upon for a generous number of tackles as a rookie.
Thu. Aug 21, 2014 | STATS
News: Holloman has what coach Jason Garrett describes as a career-ending neck injury.
Impact: Garrett said Thursday that Holloman has been dealing with a neck issue for a couple of weeks. The linebacker played in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore, but came out midway through the fourth quarter.
Thu. Aug 21, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Holloman's NFL career is likely over following his latest neck injury, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Holloman suffered a neck injury during last Saturday's preseason game, which came after the linebacker missed seven games last season with a spinal contusion. The most recent occurrence unfortunately compounded Holloman's medical condition and continuing to play football would present a considerable risk to Holloman. As such, the linebacker's NFL career will likely come to a close after playing just nine games as a rookie last year.
Thu. Aug 21, 2014 | RotoWire
News: For the second straight day on Wednesday, Claiborne (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: He's hoping to play in Saturday's preseason game, but the Cowboys haven't made an official statement yet regarding his status.
Wed. Aug 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Tanner has been waived by the Colts, the team's official site reports.
Impact: With Tanner cycled out, the Colts have added David Fluellen to their depth running back mix, via a trade with the Eagles on Wednesday.
Wed. Aug 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: McClain missed Wednesday's practice due to cramping, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: McClain began working as the Cowboys' starting middle linebacker this week, pushing teammate Justin Durant to Dallas' weakside position, but cramped up to end Tuesday's practice, thus holding him out Wednesday as well. Nonetheless, the Cowboys are intrigued by the prospect of McClain adding significant athleticism in the middle of their defense to help replace Sean Lee (knee). After having Wednesday off, McClain will hopefully be able to practice in Thursday's final session before Saturday's third preseason game versus Miami.
Wed. Aug 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Romo (rest) did not practice Wednesday, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Romo continues to have his workload monitored by the Cowboys, as he's yet to practice three straight days this preseason following last year's back surgery. After going 4-of-5 for 80 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut last weekend, Romo is expected to suit up once again Saturday versus the Dolphins.
Tue. Aug 19, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Escobar (shoulder) returned to practice Tuesday, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Escobar injured his shoulder while making a diving catch during Saturday's preseason game, but apparently the ailment was minor, as the tight end is already back on the practice field. Escobar projects as the Cowboys' No. 2 tight end behind Jason Witten once again this season.
Tue. Aug 19, 2014 | RotoWire
News: McClain will begin practicing at middle linebacker with the first-team defense this week, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: The Cowboys are hoping McClain can win the job and serve as Sean Lee's replacement, so this will be a crucial week for McClain and the Dallas defense. If he does come away with the job, he could be a sneaky IDP play.
Mon. Aug 18, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Holloman suffered a neck injury during Saturday's game and has drawn concern from the Cowboys' organization regarding his playing status moving forward, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Holloman missed seven games last season with a spinal contusion, so Saturday's second neck injury comes with fear for his future. When asked about his thoughts that the linebacker's injury is career-threatening, Cowboys' coach Jason Garrett said, "We just got to see what the doctors say." As such, it sounds like Dallas' medical staff still has some work to do to provide a more definitive diagnosis on Holloman.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Street had no receptions on one target in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens.
Impact: Street and fourth-year pro Dwayne Harris are hoping to push Cole Beasley for the No. 3 wide receiver role, and while owner Jerry Jones seems to be rooting for the rookie, Beasley remains the favorite. Beasley opened Saturday's game as the slot man in three-wide formations, and neither Harris nor Street made much of an impression.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Escobar suffered a right shoulder injury during the third quarter of Saturday's preseason game, ESPN.com reports.
Impact: Escobar's shoulder ailment surfaced, after the tight end stretched out to make a 37-yard reception. While coach Jason Garrett doesn't think Escobar's injury will be too serious, the player will undergo further testing Sunday to determine his status moving forward.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Williams rushed for 36 yards on five carries with a touchdown and caught two passes for 13 yards Saturday against the Ravens.
Impact: His competition for the third RB spot on the depth chart, Joseph Randle, also had an impressive game, so neither one was able to separate themselves. If the Cowboys aren't able to roster both, this battle could come down to who's more useful on special teams.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Randle had another strong outing Saturday, rushing for 41 yards on seven carries and catching an eight yard pass.
Impact: His competition for the third RB spot on the depth chart, Ryan Williams, also had an impressive game, so neither one was able to separate themselves. If the Cowboys aren't able to roster both, this battle could come down to who's more useful on special teams.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Minter, who signed with the Cowboys earlier in the week, had four tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens.
Impact: Given the complete lack of healthy, established pass rushers on the Cowboys' roster right now, Minter put himself in a great position to earn a job with his performance.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: McClain led the Cowboys with six tackles in Saturday's preseason games against the Ravens.
Impact: He played about half the game, looking impressive at times, coming in at the end of the first quarter and getting some work in against the Ravens' first team offense. McClain showed flashes of the sideline-to-sideline force he was expected to be when he was drafted eighth overall in 2010, and he might yet win the Cowboys' starting middle linebacker job before the preseason is over.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Dixon didn't play Saturday, after he was late for Friday's walk-through, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: It's been an up-and-down preseason for the seventh round pick, but provided that he's learned his lesson, he should be able to get back to the business of earning a roster spot.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Murray carried the ball eight times on Saturday for 34 yards, and added a 21-yard reception.
Impact: The Cowboys' first team offense looked to be in midseason form for the most part, although Murray and Tony Romo did botch a handoff that resulted in a Ravens fumble return for a TD. Dallas has insisted that they will put a renewed emphasis on their running game this season, both to take advantage of an offensive line featuring three recent first round picks and to take some pressure off Romo and their rag-tag defense. If he can stay healthy, Murray is set up to be a potentially dominant three-down back.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: After a successful preseason debut on Saturday, Romo (back) confirmed that he would play next week against the Dolphins, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Romo looked completely unhindered by his back against the Ravens on Saturday, executing a vintage spin to get away from pressure on one play and showing nice touch on a 31-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant later in the first quarter. All signs point to Romo being under center for Week 1.
Sat. Aug 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Working as the No. 3 wide receiver with the first-team offense, Beasley caught one pass for 17 yards on two targets in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens.
Impact: Beasley is competing with Dwayne Harris and Devin Street for playing time behind Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams. None of the three did much in Saturday's game, but the usage indicates that Beasley's the favorite to work as the No. 3 wideout come Week 1.
Sat. Aug 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Escobar, who caught three passes for 58 yards on four targets in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens, may have injured his right shoulder during the contest, Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: The Cowboys opened Saturday's game in a two-tight end set, with both Jason Witten and Escobar starting. Escobar looked the part of his strong stat line, though the possible injury puts somewhat of a damper on his night. While Witten isn't going anywhere, the Cowboys may find ways to work Escobar in this season. The 2013 second-round pick is still of greatest interest in dynasty leagues, as the Cowboys favor three-wide sets over two-tight end formations.
Sat. Aug 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bryant caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens.
Impact: The Ravens were without their top three cornerbacks for much of Bryant's time on the field, and the star receiver was simply too much for Baltimore's backup corners to handle. Of course, Bryant likely would turned in a similar performance against the starters, as both he and Tony Romo appeared to be in mid-season form. Locked in as the top target in a dangerous offense, Bryant has a high floor and a tantalizing ceiling.
Sat. Aug 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Making his first appearance of the preseason, Romo (back) completed four-of-five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown Saturday against the Ravens.
Impact: Romo fumbled an attempted hand-off to DeMarco Murray but was otherwise sharp. He found Dez Bryant three times for 59 yards and a touchdown, with the prolific duo picking up right where they left off last season. The botched hand-off aside, the Cowboys' first-team offense looked good against a respectable Baltimore defense.
Sat. Aug 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Leary appears to be back in the lead for the Cowboys' starting left guard spot, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Given Mackenzy Bernadeau's ability to play all three interior line spots, this isn't a big surprise, but it's still reassuring that Leary is making his case on the field. The Cowboys could have a lot of problems this season, but the offensive line shouldn't be one of them.
Wed. Aug 13, 2014 | STATS
News: Romo will play his first game for the Dallas Cowboys since undergoing back surgery for a herniated disk last December. Romo will start for the Cowboys in Saturday's exhibition game against the Baltimore Ravens. Romo missed Dallas' exhibition opener against San Diego as the Cowboys are easing him back into things after his second back surgery in the past two years.
Impact: Romo said he gave no thought to skipping the preseason to make sure he stayed healthy, saying the only way to get better at football is to play football. It will be his first chance to play in a game under new play caller Scott Linehan.
Tue. Aug 12, 2014 | STATS
News: Scandrick is getting a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Team owner Jerry Jones told reporters at a media party in Malibu, California, on Monday night that Scandrick tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and lost an appeal on the ban.
Impact: Scandrick will be eligible to return Oct. 5 against Houston. He will miss the opener against San Francisco, and his final game on the sidelines will be against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, who set an NFL record with 40 first downs against Dallas last year. Scandrick is going into his seventh season.
